Granite installed today - pics

We finally had our granite installed today. We did demo in mid-February and have had so many delays I was beginning to think it would never get done. But at least today we finally got something pretty installed.

We mixed two granites, and I was very worried about how they would look together. It is very hard to tell from the photos, but I really like them together. The dark granite reads solid unless you are looking down on it, and they really complement each other well.

Plumber on Friday, so we'll actually have functioning sinks!

Wow, that was bold, but I think they work together. You're right about one looking like a negative of the other; I've never seen that bronze macchiato either, but I love it. Heck, I really love both of them!

It must feel awesome; you've got some very beautiful, out of the ordinary stone there!

Thank you for the posts and the sweet comments and encouragement. I did go back to the granite place after making an appointment and the same girl seemed totally clueless even though I have e-mailed with her about this whole thing time and again answering her questions sending info. She seemed not to remember anything about our situation or that we had an appointment. After trying to explain and not getting a response I finally asked her in a nice way "do you not understand what I am explaining?" I think she does she just doesn't want to be bothered it appears. So to make a long story short so as not to bore you things are in a holding pattern for now. I hired a decorator to come out and look at it all and she agreed it looks awful (in person) mostly due to the sink cutouts being too small and how the faucet holes are drilled too close to the sink so that the faucets extend way out past the drain. I will have to send those back I guess if I can't get this worked out. I guess I could learn to live with the square sinks and the purple dots and the veins going in the wrong direction but with the other problems too I would rather not. Not to mention, it doesn't look like granite with no veining or flowing lines it looks like something else not sure what but not granite. It was a disappointment, shrug... The sinks are from their supply so they had them on site when cutting the holes. To someone who asked ~I'm so sorry they don't have an ID on them as to who the manufacturer is. They are supposed to have a chrome cover for the overflow hole which after going round and round with them I finally got them. The installer had them in his pocket. Sheesh!!! They look nice on the overflow hole at the back of the sink. I will be sure and post new pictures if and when it ever gets resolved!! Thank you all so much again for all of your help.

grlwprls, that glass tile comes in 12 inch sheets with 144 glass tiles per sheet. So that makes installation easier. Thy have a paper front and the paper peels off after the tiles have set. The cabinets were custom made by a local cabinet guy, but they were one-half the price we got from a cabinet firm. He calls it a 'Shaker' design but the center panel has a pretty bead along the edge. The medium maple finish has an ebony wash, which clings to the bead.

A2, how much longer until completion? I bet the 27th seems forever away. Your kitchen transformation will be amazing once the counters go in. The main sink was easy to figure out as far as placement goes. The prep sink . . . . well, that was tough. Definitely didn't achieve symmetry but was looking more for function. Wanted to make the sink usable from both sides in spite of the corner. It is interesting watching each others progress considering we started at the same time. They are going definitely taking different routes to get there. Your kitchen looks so great with all those doors up. I really want my doors! Can't wait.

Beautiful granites! I love both of them. Cabs look so pretty! How wonderful you must feel. Looks great and can't wait to see more pictures. Congrats. Gorgeous stone.

should we call someone about child labor laws ;-) lovely granite & yes, they do work together nicely! I had my marble installed today too & plumber scheduled for Friday. Only one more day of doing dishes in the shower!!!!

Your kitchen and granite are stunning! My DH wanted a bolder granite than I picked (Kashmir Gold), but I chickened out. Gee, maybe he was right? Yours looks wonderful! Enjoy!

I love the mix of the two stones, the kitchen is going to be fabulous! But, by no means no more fabulous than that gorgeous young man, I must say!! He's a cutie!

Thanks, guys, for the compliments, especially for my little cutie-pie. I was so happy when he walked in the kitchen and said "wow, it looks kind of nice." Made my day.

The light granite is Golden Queen, although it looks like Gold and Silver to me. Maybe they are the same thing? They only had the one slab from that lot when we went to the granite yard, which wasn't enough for our kitchen. Our KD found the dark granite, which he loved, and really wanted us to use for the perimeter. They called it Bronze Macchiatto, but I've searched and searched and never found a granite called Bronze Macchiatto anywhere else, or anything that looked like it.

Honestly, when I first saw the dark granite, it made no impression on me. And although I can agonize for days over a faucet, I questioned how the two granites would look together for about 1 minute, and then just said "okay, go for it." That was in December. I hadn't seen the granite since, and was really starting to worry that we'd made a big mistake. I really give credit to my KD for finding that granite. I would have walked right by it, but now I love it.
