Footboard or no footboard?

A picture of the bed in my spare room:

Our spare room is not large, and currently also doubles as my scrapbooking area. While I love the look of the headboard and footboard together, I am wondering if it might be a better idea to just use the headboard. It would be a little less intrusive and allow for seating on the end of the bed.

I am also looking at the possibility of replacing the existing bed - I have a different set of darker metal that I think I would like as a change from the cream and brass (there is currently different bedding on the bed).

Thoughts?

I always go function before form, and if removing the footboard makes your room more usable, go for it! I think an upholstered headboard or maybe a vintage wood headboard painted white would work for you, or the other one you already have.

I removed the footboard in our guest room and gave it to a friend to use as a headboard in a rental. Glad to see it gone! Now if I could just find a bedspread for the king size bed, I'd be set!

A great alternative to a footboard (especially on a kind size bed) is a long narrow bench at the end of the bed. Very luxurious, in my opinion! We recently purchased a king size mattress and are using it with a headboard only. I love it! So much easier to make the bed, and the bench at the end holds the extra bedding we don't use at night. DH and I are both taller than average (6'0 and 5'9 with most of it in our legs!), so we do appreciate the extra freedom at the end of the bed. This has actually cut down on the amount of tossing and turning we had been doing in the smaller bed with the footboard.

sorry, didn't read all, but I would just move the bed over a foot!!! it would drive me crazy to have it a foot (18"??) off the wall for a foot of view! the left sided person would still enjoy it and the r side would just have to scooch over to see it-- wake up, love it and hop out of bed to the window seat to better enjoy it!! if I was staying in the room, I would probably take the liberty and move the bed over so that it sat fully on the wall myself! I would leave the brass alone, tho would be pretty shined up too! either looks good! love everything else!! what an awesome guest room!!!!!

I slightly prefer the faux bamboo style, but haven't found a simpler example like the discontinued one in the photo (straight lines, plain finials instead of pineapples, etc.). Thanks for your points on the footboard! I'm still batting for both teams, but No Footboard is edging ahead.
