Painted white cabinets- how much wear and tear after 3 months?
Comments (7)Mine are white, and we have been living with them about three months. I don't have the issues you do from daily wear. I had an issue when we moved in when one of the last trades (not sure who) in the house before we moved back had made some long, deep gouges across the cab panel short end of the island. The gouges didn't damage the paint, strangely enough, but you could see it the indentations. Our painters had to come back and paint the pantry door and trim near the island so they bondo-ed the damage and re-painted it along with everything else. On the cleanup sink base, the caulk where the shaker moulding meets the flat panel is ripping apart. I don't know why. I don't spill water on the cabs at the sink so it's not from water damage. Maybe it's the weight of the sink itself? Not sure. No visible dings in the paint yet, despite two young and active kids and three young and psycho cats. No paint wearing off anywhere. My cabs are custom and were only painted with BM Satin Impervo without any type of protection over that. Do you have some pictures of the damage you could post? I was worried about not having a baked on factory finish! I'm sorry you're experiencing this....See MoreIkea Kicthen Owners - Need "wear and tear" experience!
Comments (13)We installed an IKEA kitchen about 6 years ago. It has been a rental house for the past 4 years. The renters just moved out so I went to check. One side of the kitchen was done in Adel Medium Brown and it looked perfect! The drawers needed to be cleaned - but they looked good as new once they were cleaned. The other side - the office side - is Adel White cabinets and I was dismayed that they didn't look quite as good as the Medium Brown since I want a white kitchen in our current house. I've not cleaned these yet - so maybe it is just cosmetic - but wow - the Adel Medium Brown looks like new. We went with IKEA the last time because of cost, we are going with IKEA this time because of function. I am getting non-IKEA doors/drawers but that is because I want white painted Shaker style doors which IKEA doesn't have. I'm starting to be a tad nervous about the white! Buehl - I'm sure your Mom will be very happy with her IKEA kitchen. :-) Jeri...See Moresoapstone wear and tear
Comments (20)Just got a couple of samples from Bucks County Soapstone. I banged a saucepan squarely onto the surface and it was unblemished. It didn't take much to ding the edge though. However, they were much smaller than I thought they'd be and pretty much came off with a nail file. We dragged a fork across and of course it scratched. They were camouflaged by the oil but still quite evident. Didn't try to sand them out although I imagine I could. Long story short, I could definitely live with this. DH is on a business trip so I will need to await his return. I will tell him all about wabi sabi :-)...love that whole concept. I will also take a look at slate and honed granite in the next few days. Thanks for the suggestions. I had M. Texieira quote me for their hardest soapstone and it was around $100/SF. Wow. I'm in Northern VA so part of that might be the distance from NJ....See MoreLet's see pictures of your open kitchen with white/off white cabs
Comments (26)Positano, Thank you! I love the refrigerator. The only complaint I have had is there was something very sharp on the bottom of it that left a deep, thin scratch on my new wood floor as the fridge was pushed into position. Grrr! But we covered the scratch with a wax pen so it's all fine now. The icemaker seems efficient, the refrigerator layout is flexible, its temperature runs true (I keep a fridge thermometer in there) and it feels spacious. The outside finish polishes nicely. I'm very happy with it. Try_Hard...See MoreKati
