Are your appliances white too?

stainless. the plan is to insert pops of color via pots, towels, etc. i want peaceful, happy and serene not cold. I love bright cheery color but want the marble so bad and just love the clean feeling of a white kitchen.

My finished kitchen is white with calacatta marble for my island and for my backsplash (not slab, but subway marble. I am not sure what choices there are in caeserstone, but is there a light gray available? Or even a travertine color? I think black with white always looks classic, too. I paired my marble with honed ivory travertine floors. My kitchen floors do meet up with oak hardwood in the dining room.

Any pics of your choices together?

No samples at the moment but am working on it. Went into a kitchen design store and felt the blizzard caesarstone and calacutta worked together but not sure about the caesarstone and the marble together as a whole. The organic white had a greyness about it which is what I thought would work in the first place but the textured aspect of it seems to conflict rather than contrast with the calacutta. I don't know much about travertine except I always associated it with expensive but I will check it out. Is that the case? Any special reason you selected travertine over other choices? And how is the marble working on your island. Is the maintenance a challenge? And what did you do for your countertop?

Can't help with the counter choices, but I can share our experience with flooring. Our kitchen is also very small. We went with cork flooring by durodesign. They have a large amount of colors - 54 in several different designs. We've had it for about a month or so, and we're really happy with it. I contacted them online and they mailed me samples free of charge. Our contractor ordered directly from them. The cost of the flooring was $8.00 per sq. foot., not including installation. The floor feels very nice underfoot and has been easy to clean. We picked it because we had wood in the hallway and the cork went very nicely.

Travertine can range in price a lot. I loved how neutral and natural it was. Mine is ivory - they have light to dark colors available. I have seen some very budget friendly sales at the big box stores. Any natural stone will need to be sealed. I do that on my floors and counters 2x a year. Please know that sealing takes exactly the same amount of time and effort that cleaning your counter or floors takes. You wipe it on, let it sit a minute, then thoroughly wipe it off. That's it.

I have had absolutely NO staining with my marble. We eat at the island every day for most meals. I have 5 teenagers and they frequently have many friends over. There is some etching, but honestly, you have to turn your head to the side and lay it flat on the surface to find them.

On the perimeter we put Cambrian Black Antique Granite. LOVE IT!!

lagrant, wow, your kitchen is stunning! I was daunted by the idea of sealing the marble, but thanks to your description it is much less of a mystery! still worried about what heat would do to it as a countertop although i never put a hot pot down on my countertops now and i am in a crummy rental so that really should not be a problem. your island looks like carrara from the picture but I know your post said calacutta. it looks spectacular, congrats and thanks so much for the feedback.
