White kitchen: marbled or solid white counters if colorful backsplash?

Hi all,

I'm having decision fatigue and second guessing myself (which I hate!). I already have IKEA Axstad cabinets (white) installed (see photos below). I had decided on Caesarstone Frosty Carrina counters (a very lightly marbled white quartz), thinking they were subtle and would go with everything . I would like a colorful/patterned backsplash, but will take time to pick it out. My interim will be fun peel/stick wallpaper, like this:

Now I'm wondering if instead I should do Caesarstone Pure White (solid white quartz). I had originally ruled it out because I thought I needed a subtle pattern to break up the expanse of white (with white cabinets too). But now I'm second guessing myself - should I pick a solid white counter if I'm planning on a colorful/patterned backsplash? Or are both good choices? Help! I have to decide by Tuesday! As you can see, I have a very small galley kitchen.

I'd probably do the solid white and let the backsplash be the star, but I think that the Frosty Carrina is subtle enough that it would neither compete with nor steal the attention from a colorful, patterened backsplash. I wouldn't pair it with a natural marble, but there is a world of other options.

Thank you @cawaps! I appreciate this feedback. It's hard to near the end of the process and start questioning things. I have found photos with bold backsplashes and solid white counters, and bold with marble, and they do both look nice, so that is good!

oh, momo...now I have google ann sacks and found those tiles...I JUST LOVE THEM. $83 per square foot, eh? Ay yi yi! I also found other tiles there that I love. Part of me almost wants to go nuts and ethnic and busy, since the rest of my kitchen is so simple. I am just afraid I will tire of it. Like this... (not this exactly, I just mean a busy, ethnic pattern. Kind of looks 70s to me, also.) cherry-Yes, we addressed the torso issue already! Yet another reason I want the mirror antiqued, and also not flat panes but rather tiles, so the "cuts" will break up the view a bit! I know what you mean, some of these threads get so long and I want to give my 2 cents but I just *know* one of my comments has probably already been made, but I say it anyway. Thanks for the input. You are not the only one with the opinion that with so much stainless and "coolness" I should go with warmth/color/texture. The things is...I see so many finished white kitchens similar to mine that have white tile as a BS, and I like them. I also like those pics that momo posted in her link, and they are white, with SS appliances, and mirrored BS and I think they look good. Well, I am torn and DH really wants me to make a decision so he can install. He wants the tile/color/texture look. I will keep you guys updated! Thanks so much!

Need help finding a non-white backsplash for a White kitchen

My first project with glass tile involved my removing two columns of mortared mosaic glass squares because I didn't like the angle of my tile cuts. In the process of pulling it down I cut myself (no big surprise). What was a bit of a surprise was the surgery I needed two months later to remove a shard of glass lodged on the tendon of the middle finger of my right hand. It could have severed that tendon at any time, which would, of course, have been disastrous. He needs a wet saw, a diamond blade for it, personal protective equipment (I wore goggles, boots, gloves, but my gloves weren't leather) and health insurance! Regarding the tile, seeing all the samples together, Tusk has the right undertones, and would be my choice. You can choose anything you like, of course, but I don't think Gardenia is the right one. I am partial to the glazed thin brick and show it below in Alcatraz and Glacier. I totally get it if you feel you already have enough brick! But this may be a better color family for you.

We found 3 whites that we love together. The cabinets are a dove white, counter top is Viatera Minuet quartz (the smaller sample on the edge) and backsplash is Lansdale Carrera Amalfi from the Tile Shop. The marble is creamy with very subtle warm veining and tiny sparkly flecks. Fingers crossed that when we get the marble in larger quantities it is as uniform as the box they had at the store!!! The color variation on the sample we have is very subtle and diffuse and does not fight with the counter top.

Hi, AMS, IMO of the two go with the Frosty Carinna if you like it. A little movement in the quartz will add some interest.

(I was just looking at ‘World of Interiors‘ magazine and those photos always reinforce in my mind that I should be a little more adventuresome/creative in my design picks even though my nature is to make ‘safe’ picks.)

How does the Pure White look in your kitchen lighting next to your cabinets? Do they have the same undertone, or does one pull towards blue while the other pulls towards yellow? I would probably stick with your original choice because whites are hard to match up sometimes and it feels lower risk.

Thanks @J Inhof and @Pam A. Good question about the tones of the Pure white - I don't have a sample of the Pure White (oops!) but I did look at it with my cabinets in the IKEA store (which obviously has very different lighting). The Pure white, was very very close to the cabinet color. The Frosty Carrina overall read a slightly cream - I do have a sample of Frosty Carrina, and in my kitchen it also reads slightly cream (and the website describes it as ivory).
