No, I think another lamp in your room, on that table, would look great! I always like seeing lamps in different parts of a room.

I'm an avid reader and, to me, every living room, family room and bedroom needs enough good reading lamps. I definitely think you can use another lamp in there. I'd make it one with a lamp base and shade different from the other two. The sewing cab is on the tall side, so keep that in mind when you lamp shop. The bottom of the shade/lightbulb should not come above eye level, in order to keep the bulb's glare out of one's eyes. Sit in the chair with a yardstick and measure how high the shade/bulb can be from the tabletop and take that measurement with you when you shop.

First of all, I LOVE your rug, it is gorgeous! Would you mind sharing where you got it? I am looking for something that size with those same colors and pattern. I also love your sewing machine. My grandmother has one just like it. I wish I could say I will be getting it one day but my uncle has already staked his claim to it!

Regarding your question, I think if you stayed with a smaller scale lamp, one about the size of your candle holder or a wee bit bigger, I think it would look great. If it were my room, I would also consider moving the floor lamp to the area by the chair and then put another occasional table on that end of the sofa with a lamp on it instead. I always like to have some kind of surface for drinks, books, remotes, etc. for everyone who is seated in the room. But either way, I think it will look great! You have a beautiful room.

I LOVE lamps - and the having different lighting options so -- of course -- I do vote for another lamp on your pretty sewing cabinet. Perhaps a short chubby one that mimics (as wisely pointed out above) the size of the candle holder.

yup, add a lamp. The two shades you have now are very similar in shape, so I would go with one that is totally different and I think it would look great. I, too, love lamps all over the place.

Here a few pictures using small lamps from around the house to get an idea of size. They're both pretty similar in size. This one is around 16" tall.

And this one is around 18" tall.

I'm not trying to decide between these two lamps. I'm trying them for size. I think I'd like to find something a little different, unless anyone thinks either of these is working there.

Sorry ADDY, I forgot to answer your question about the rug. We bought it last year at an unusual 'shop' near the Illinois/Wisconsin border. A friend referred me to this woman who lives on her family farm and travels the world part of the year, shopping for items to sell out of her barn, part of the house and a few other smaller buildings on the property. I was looking for an 8X10 and this rug since it's hand-knotted is more like 8X9, but it works for us.

And as long as you mentioned the sewing machine, I have to tell you it belonged to my mom and I learned to sew on it. My dad brought it home to my mom one day shortly after they were married (more than 50 years ago) from the Sears store he was working at. Someone had traded it in for a new sewing machine. Lucky us, huh?

I would get something at least as large as the second one but with more bulk at the base. Maybe a ceramic ginger jar shape that picks up some of your colors, and a dark or black shade.

Very pretty room. I love lamps in a room. Can never have too much light (for my eyes anyways)!
