Comments (2)Your house is very cute. I agree window trim the color of the soffits and garage. I would just do a color refresh and keep the color you already have for the body of the house. Looks like a design in the peak area, that is painted house color, I would like to see that painted the trim color too. Hopefully, some of your new landscaping will bloom with brightly colored flowers. Some colorful pots full of pretty flowers in the spring, will be a great addition. The awnings are a bit dated, but, they look to be in decent shape, and it sounds like you do need something there. Are the roller blinds you mentioned inside the house? If so, unless they are really old I would keep them. I just replaced all my mini blinds (which I hate), with total blackness roller shades with the side chain for rolling up. I am so much happier with them, than the slatted blinds....See MoreWhat materials for exterior of 50's ranch cinder block home add on AZ?
Comments (10)I would do the brick veneer, just make sure to offset the addition some from the original so you don't have to worry about tying it into the original construction and it won't be noticeable it is a different material. Wood frame construction and brick/brick veneer is common. Edited to add. Obviously the framing have to be tied into the existing house. What I meant was to not have a straight flat boundary where new material meets old material. If you can have it meet in a corner it will be less noticeable. So either move the addition in a little bit or out a little bit from the existing structure....See MoreLooking for Security Screen door for 50's home in Seattle
Comments (7)Thanks to all with your helpful suggestions, especially the local recommendations. It was exactly what I was looking for. Patricia - I said my house was built in the 50's not that it was "MCM" or that I was interested in maintaining a strict MCM style. And while you might find them aesthetically unpleasing, for people with children or pets that wish to open doors to catch a cross-breezes rather than using AC, screen doors are a nice solution. That I want one with an architectural quality has more to do with the idea that the design of my front gate could be continued to my front door....See MoreUgly 50s house, corner windows create a problem? Comments (7)Change your landscaping. You will fall back in love with your home :) As mentioned above, adding shutters won't help and you don't have the room for them anyway. You have a very nice home. The landscaping is not up to date - it is "blocking" any welcoming entry to your home. Post in the landscaping subforum here on houzz to see what plan those posters can show you. They are truly awesome....See MoreUser
