I think they look kind of naked w/o knobs and I'd put them on. But I'm a more-is-more person so take my opinion for whatever its worth with that in mind :)

Gorgeous Kitchen! Just had this same discussion with KD yesterday; we decided it was silly to put fake hardware on the hood because people would assume there was 'something' in there. I thought it could be a conversation piece, but finally, I think we're going to leave it plain. Good luck deciding, I vote keep it plain!

The little room to the left of the range wall is my "hidey hole"...aka the home planning area. My laptop will live there and there is a small "L" shaped run of counter on the left side and middle, with a couple of drawers and cubbies for baskets. On the right side of the "room" (it is hard to call the space a room, it is tiny!) is the door to the walk in pantry. My dw, sink, fridge are all located on the left wall that isn't shown in the picture.

I can definitely wait to see if I want to put hardware on those doors/panels...my little girl had just said, "why did they forget the knobs on those doors, Mommy?" and it made me wonder if everyone would think that! lol!

Since they look like doors to me, rather than being an obvious single decorative panel, I would put knobs on them, personally.

Just curious, why does your DH think someone is going to be opening doors in your kitchen? Friends will know about the faux doors and strangers...well any stranger opening doors in my kitchen gets their hand whacked with the BIG wooden spoon! And if they don't stop the cast iron frying pan comes out...

Hoodless as your kitchen is now, it looks like you should have the knobs. I'm curious to see what it looks like when the hood is in though. The knobs might look odd depending on what your hood looks like.

Can I ask what color your cabs are? I see the Carrara peaking out. I'm trying to pick a white to go with my very gray Carrara. I swore I wasn't going to spend so much time on the cab paint, but I can't help it.

Kitchen looks very, very pretty btw. I can't wait to see the island top. Please post pics of it when it's in. Wow, I'm considering a wood island top too.

I didn't, fwiw. And I think you could make an argument that the faux doors are an extension of the shape of the backsplash box rather than door-like. It all looks like a shape drawn in and down to the backsplash frame to me. So I wouldn't do it: truth in advertising. Plus, form following function, just to toss around some random aphorisms.

I definitely don't think either way is a mistake though. Therefore, whatever you decide will be good! Or I know, how about taking that BIG wooden spoon and ceremonially afixing it across the two faux doors? Just kidding ... probably.

Breezy...believe it or not, I am not exactly sure what the paint formulation for the cabs is. They are maple painted white, but I was led through that part by the kitchen designer, and had just told her and my interior designer that I wanted white. But, I can probably get the formula from the painters. All the trim in the whole house matches it. My marble definitely is on the grey side...and really looks grey in my master where it is polished rather than honed. The honing lightens it up. I will definitely post pics of the walnut...I think it might be installed this week!

Those knobs are very nice. I think that you should not install them, because everyone will be able to tell that is a hood, since it's so high, and it just doesn't make sense (to me, at least).
P.S. I am getting Jeffrey Alexander too, but in Lafayette and Odessa, and in "antique copper". I like a lot of what JA makes. It has a good warranty.

Nina, if it's not too much trouble, I'd love to know the name of the paint on the cabs. It looks great with the tiny edge of marble peaking at me. :)

Wait for the hood.

You could also a consider larger, complementary knobs right in the middle of the doors, keeping them away from the hood and completely out of reach.

Put a nail above the doors and hang a wreath or durable piece of art there

But take that w a grain of salt. I have a whole bank of fake cabinets w hinges and latches! :D

Hi there, beautiful kitchen, congrats on its almost finished state -- so exciting! Love your wall paint color -- could you let us know what the color is? which granite or marble did you choose? love the herringbone backsplash. By the way, don't think I would put handles on the hood space. Thanks : )

I'd probably add the knobs, but as irishcreamgirl suggests, wait until everything else is done.

On the subject of people trying to open fake doors, FWIW:

We have knobs on fake doors at a much more accessible height than yours. We included the knobs for symmetry's sake, since these cabinets stand on one side of my refrigerator and there are matching operable doors with knobs on the other side of the fridge. About four people tried to open them when they came into the finished kitchen for the first time, when in the fun of inspection they were poking into all the new cupboards. No one has touched them since then. It hasn't been a problem at all.

On a functional note:
Aren't those doors over 6' off the ground? How many people really would try to open them if they had knobs? I don't know how much I would worry about that.

Aesthetically:
It looks like a (really nice) range hood enclosure. I wouldn't add knobs to make it look like a (kind of odd) cabinet.
