Truly inspiring! I have just one question... are you painting over wallpaper? If so, why? You're doing such lovely work, wouldn't you want to strip the paper to be sure your wall texture, etc, holds up? Not criticizing... just curious. I have a 1/2 bath full of wallpaper that needs to go, too.

It looks as though the paper was scraped off. I'm VERY familiar with that look, lol! I had a whole kitchen to do!

Creekylis, after two houses of wallpaper, I've found what works best for me. As per a wallpaper and texture guy I spoke with, I prime with oil-based primer, then texture over the paper. If the paper is original to the house (as mine is/was), and the seams are flat with no signs of peeling, then it's much easier and faster to just prime it, texture, and paint. My paper was also papered to raw drywall and is nearly impossible to get off without destroying the drywall.

If it's not original to the house/applied over raw drywall, or if there are seams coming up, then I'd rethink my technique. But mine has held up fine in both bathrooms and kitchens for the last 5 years and 2 houses.

This is, of course, a topic of hot debate, as some people say the way I do it is totally incorrect, but other professionals in my area have businesses dedicated to doing just what I did. If it's good enough for the pros to do around here, then it's good enough for me. :)

Did you get those cabinet feet at an upholstery shop? That little touch makes such an impact.

If you ever rip this bathroom out it will break my heart. You said "temporary", right? No, no, no.......it's going to be perfect.

Ok, I have a small window while waiting on some drywall mud to dry.

Jesemy, the fabric on top of the shower curtain is some sort of upholstery fabric with a rust background and gold threading. It was only $3 for a yard as it was remnant!

Teacats, because I truly don't know how to sew, I did the shower curtain the only way I know how. I sort of held up the fabric to see how long it should be (which revealed that I needed a complementary fabric on top b/c I didn't have enough of the toile!). Once I had the length of both the toile and the valance part, I sewed together 2 widths of the toile to make it wide enough for a shower curtain. Then I sewed the fringe onto the valance part, and sewed that to the toile. After that I just hemmed it all. It's really ugly/unfinished on the back, so I'll probably end up doing some sort of a lining. But for now it'll do.

kmcg and gagesgranny, the paint for the vanity is Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage. I sanded the cabinets, then did two coats of the paint. I glazed it with Sherwin Williams glaze in a (very popular around here) color called Van Dyke Brown, which is very dark brown-almost black.

When I finished glazing with the Van Dyke brown, the color was still a bit too "cool", so I glazed it again with a Minwax gel stain in Plantation Walnut. It gave it a bit more warmth in tone.

kcmg, they are actually uphosltery tack strips. It comes in a big roll, and you tack in a real upholstery tack every 4th or 5th section. MUCH easier than having to individually tack every one in!

Bananafana, I like the look so much I'll be keeping it. I will eventually replace the vanity top, as it's old, discolored and worn out, but I'm leaving the cabinets!

Thanks so much for the info. I have been itching to do something in my PR. Currently, it is papered in a not too bad 90's Waverly floral, maple cabs with a white-ish glaze and white knobs. My kitchen is EK Edgwood green. The PR is right off the kitchen. I wonder if it would be too much to paint the bathroom vanity in the EG and glazed? I have a gallon of leftover EG waiting for a purpose. I love the look of the glazed green you have done. And of course you might know that I am using the Bosporus in Flax in my MBR! Love that toile! Hmmm, something to think about. Now I need to ponder what color for walls if I went that route....

Reno... I hope I did not insult your technique. I was truly curious as I have a similar situation and have always been told you must strip. However, I didn't understand you are doing a texture over it. Believe me... I'm always looking for the easiest way to produce great results. Nice job! Can't wait to see it complete.

Wow Reno! Ever considered hiring out to the less talented? It would be a short drive! That looks fantastic. Do you shop a favorite fabric store locally or do you order your fabrics online? Seems we don't have much choice around here in fabric stores anymore. Also, where do you come up with the neat ideas?

Reno, Congratulations on a fantastic renovation! I have been debating on whether to renovate or replace my bathroom vanity, and you have inspired me to work with what I already have. Could you share some more details about where you found and how you attached, the vanity legs, wooden detail on the false drawer, and the upholstery tack strips? I am truly in awe-- and love the toile, too!
