I'm confused, duvet covers are normally for down comforters, NOT regular comforters is this what you are trying to put "inside" the duvet? If so most likely it will appear to be bulky and uneven. A down comforter is much slimmer than a regular comforter.

well, I've learned something that I did not know, that a duvet would also be used for regular comforters! I really only thought they were for down comforters.

aside from that (my comment above)to protect my quest bed comforter from my pets, I use a twin sheet folded over and then topped off with a furry throw on the lower half of the guest bed (pillows etc are on the top half) I too have kitties and a dog that like to sleep in this room. This alone keeps my comforter fur free.

I'm allergic to down so I was using an alternative , maybe it's a quilt and not comfortor. But I think somepeople just use a fluffy quilt/comforter instead of the "old" bedspread. I just unhappy with the sizing.

I have to find something today (and I need to leave soon)because it has to get done before my dh and ss will let me start on another project.

When I put the comforter in to try it on the bed - it looked messy and how the heck do you get it flat and even inside??

Someone should film me when I am putting on a comforter cover and sell tickets to watch it - it's pretty funny. I just about end up inside the cover trying to get it into the corners. Get some large safety pins and pin the comforter to the corners of the cover.

I buy these little round metal fasteners with 2 pieces (I'm sure they have a name, but I don't know it) at the fabric store. They come on strips of cotton. Then I sew one side of the fastener on each inside corner of our duvet cover and and the other side on each corner of the duvet. Put the duvet in the cover and do the snaps up. Easy peasy!

Turn the duvet inside out and put your hands in the inside corners (which are really the exterior corners that you now have inside). Grab the corners of the comforter, and shake the duvet down over the comforter. I usually stand on the bed to do this since there is no way to hold it high enough otherwise! You will have it right side out at this point. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it works-just don't let DH or kids see you-they'll think you are nuts, but it is much easier and effective than trying to stuff the comforter in the duvet cover. I also bought a duvet for a regular comforter when I redecorated one bedroom and did not want to buy another down comforter for that room. This method works for that one as well.

Mavia, I am VERY VERY careful to make sure NO one (not even DH) sees me doing this!!!LOL At 5'3", the comforter is much longer than I am tall, so I am on tiptoe with arms way over head-I am an accident waiting to happen. Hmmm....maybe we should video it after all-teehee.

I bet there are some good storeies out there about ladies falling off the bed or some crazy thing while trying to put a comforter in one. Funny

Hi. Bed Bath and Beyond sells duvet fasteners. I just bought some but haven't tried them yet. I used to put the duvet cover on the floor and then crawl inside it to insert the comforter. I am sure my kids thought I was nuts, but then so do I! I am glad I read this thread to learn other ways to get the job done. Thanks.
