save your scraps of paper...a short story, happy ending

My contractor picked up my fancy-schmancy backsplash tile on Friday. I had given him the info and he had ordered it to get the discount. The Pratt and Larson tile didn't look right, and sure enough when I went to the store with a sample it was clear that the saleslady (2 months ago) had been confused by the #s on the back of the sample board and had given me the wrong number. I had been given, and then had my contractor order several weeks later, the number of the tile next to the one I wanted. The tile I got was beautiful, but much more modern feeling than my kitchen needs.

Anyway, paper-clipped to the receipt for the tile, filed away in my "kitchen remodel 2010" binder was the piece of paper the saleswoman had written the color # and the price on. And so they are rushing me replacement tiles.

I wish I was as compulsive in every area of my life. Saved me money and hassle, probably time. Save your scraps!
