can I cut a chunk out of my tile counter?

I hate my "new" kitchen but don't want to remodel so I want to make it usable (anyone who remembers far enough back will remember that's what I said preremodel of my last one, but this time I mean it! I've already installed a trash pullout!)

Okay, so I need a hood. Current range is a downdraft. Must lose the range, never tried the downdraft because it's not ducted unless you consider dumping into the crawlspace to be ducted.

I can put a hood on the ceiling (island style, and visible from the rest of the house) and find someone to install it and redo my new roof etc., or I can cut a hole in my counter and do a popup downdraft. I do NOT want to hire someone for this.

I have a wet saw for tile--that won't work here of course. Is there any way to cut a hole in my tile in situ? There are spares in the garage so I could probably knock off a row and just redo that section.

What would you do?
