Sorry to disappoint, Amy. Here's a bit of my quandary. DD70's example above (Thanks!) looks very purple. My little sample looks like it has much more red in it. These curtains are deeper and purpler than Radicchio and less purple than the above Brinjal sample, but close to my F&B printed Brinjal sample. I shoved some stuff around and removed some accessories so that these photos would (sort of) show existing wood tones in room. However, the walls are SW MS Gingerroot and they always show up on my monitor as mauve-ish instead. (I really do need a better indoor camera--it can't all be my lousy photographic skills.) The sofa and chairs all need upholstery, so you can disregard colors, but the shapes will stay the same. The fireplace surround is Carrara marble--grayish white and gray. I want to use dark corals, jolts of blue and turquoise. Probably sounds horrid, but, honest, I can see it my mind's eye.

So you don't have sample pots yet? Just the fandeck or brochure? If that is the case, I would strongly suggest getting pots of both colors. Something about F&B....the chips just don't really convey the final color. It is more of an issue than with other brands for some reason.

Also, are you set on F&B? (I know, their finishes are scrumptious.) Aura has a couple of interesting aubergine colors, as do Citron and C2. You might also ask Ellen Kennon of she's done any matching in that color neighborhood. Just a thought...

I have found that even the sample pots are a bit different than the overall effect. That was a happy discovery in my utility room. The color is so rich; it's as though it comes off the walls and envelops you. Still, was hoping to find more photos. Brinjal is almost a crayon grape in the photo above, yet more red in my sample pot (prehaps because it's old?). I've had samples of C2 and Citron, but not painted with either. How does the painting experience compare with F&B (pudding texture? matte finish? no headache or icky odor?). Any colors you recommend, in particular, in the Brinjal-y hues? Also, haven't tried Aura, but it sounds like it might be less forgiving due to short open period. Still, I'd be open to trying it.

True that even the sample pot can be quite misleading. Especially if it's an already painted wall that you are sampling upon. F&B colors are very sensitive and when you are sampling it upon an existing paint color, the tested color would be greatly distorted by it's surrounding color. F&B is benefited by color harmony & color relationship. For example, if you want a blue more blue, try using it next to gray or greenish colors. Another important factor is the light source. Perhaps this explains why certain color is red in one house and purple in another. :->

For me, the way to sample F&B is to paint the sample on white poster board (3-4 coats) and try to view it apart from other colors. View it at different times of the day as well for what you see during the day may become a totally different color at night.

Also, when using F&B the always looks so bad at the first couple walls . But when you finish the whole room, something magical happened and it's beautiful. :-> I am so used of seeing F&B chips and extrapolate it to room, but most of my friends think their color chips are just plain ugly. :->
