Help me choose a rangetop and hood!
Comments (2)Sorry, I didn't put this in before black Friday. I love my kitchenaid top of the line cooktop. I also like my Bertazoni cooktop on my freestanding range (in another house). Both have simmer burners that aren't quite low enough for me but both give off plenty of heat for wok type cooking. The Bertazoni oven is questionable but the stainless steel is higher quality and cleans up better....See MoreHood Insert or Hood Insert w/ Liner?? Pls help, need to decide
Comments (1)You need to check the specs and make sure that all of the wood is covered by metal if you choose a smaller insert. I don't think the Broan you're talking about here will do that. It's a fire hazard otherwise. Choosing a wood hood is never a cheap choice. $1200 honestly is not a bad price at all for an insert with the capabilities that you need. Then there's the 2-3K for the wood surround. And the ducting, if it's not in place. And the electrical work, and the time intensive work of the cabinet installer to make it all work together. By the time you add up all of those additional costs that you're not thinking about here, that little bit of difference between something that might do the job, and something that will do the job is negligible. If you want to go cheaper, do a stainless chimney hood or an old fashioned under cabinet stainless steel hood....See MoreHelp me choose a gas range and hood for my NYC kitchen remodel
Comments (4)I'd suggest posting in appliances for more input. There are a few experts who hang out there and not here. And I'd suggest taking a serious look at an induction range. I made the switch from gas a couple of years ago after researching on the appliances forum and would not willingly go back. Induction has all the power, faster adjustments and is easier to clean. And importantly in your situation the range itself isn't putting anything into the air to be vented. Most induction ranges have different electrical requirements from a standard electric radiant range so you would need to check whether you can swing that in your building....See Morehood insert/range hood liner HELP
Comments (6)It might be easier to think of this hood as being comprised of two assemblies. The outer assembly is made of wood parts rigidly bonded or otherwise attached together to generally resemble a cabinet without a base. The inner assembly (called a liner) is a metal shell that incorporates (hopefully) a set of baffles, light and motor controls, lights, and, optionally, a blower. The blower subassembly comprises a fan blade sub-assembly and a motor sub-assembly. Alternatively, if an external blower is used, then there is also a cover and damper as part of the blower assembly. I would not expect a typical cabinet maker to supply the liner assembly, but may want it on hand to fit to it. As I don't have one of these, I welcome any refinements of my description that may be needed....See More- 13 years ago
