Thank you for your helpful response!! So if I’m understanding correctly, I would not need to buy a liner if the cabinet company provides a wood hood with the liner? All I would need to buy is the insert (the blower)?

As far as I know the terms "liner" and "insert" are the same thing in that they are simply the inner workings of the hood without the shroud or cabinet. Different manufactures use different terms.

You can see you get the controls, filters, lights, etc. It mounts in whatever cabinet you have built for it. So, no, it would not come from the cabinet company.

You can buy with either an internal or external blower.

It might be easier to think of this hood as being comprised of two assemblies. The outer assembly is made of wood parts rigidly bonded or otherwise attached together to generally resemble a cabinet without a base. The inner assembly (called a liner) is a metal shell that incorporates (hopefully) a set of baffles, light and motor controls, lights, and, optionally, a blower. The blower subassembly comprises a fan blade sub-assembly and a motor sub-assembly. Alternatively, if an external blower is used, then there is also a cover and damper as part of the blower assembly.

I would not expect a typical cabinet maker to supply the liner assembly, but may want it on hand to fit to it. As I don't have one of these, I welcome any refinements of my description that may be needed.

All of the major cabinet brands supply blowers and liners with their wood hood assemblies. If you choose to order them that way. They are designed to fit together, hand in glove, rather than miss covering up part of the wood, or be too shallow, not arched to fit the hood arch, etc.
