A very nice look and functional too in this case is to simply have one panel on each window on the outside part of the window...swooped gracefully on a tieback is sometimes the best look. It's a great "frame" for the FP and since you already have blinds, you don't need 2 panels each on the windows. If you have panels on each side, you'll lose a lot of light too. I'm running right now but perhaps someone can show you a pix.

Angela, is this what you had in mind as far as the drapes? I only did one side so you can see the difference. I actually liked the room with just the woven woods and no drapery. Seemed like you needed more height by the fireplace, too. The more rustic, cozy look you have is great for the wood texture. Nothing wrong with white blinds, I just like the warmer colors in your home.

I agree, one on the outside of each window would look best.

Angela, I think black wrought iron hardware would look good--I just used something that I already had available on that program! Or wood hardware in the color of your mantel would be good, too.

I would hang the panels much higher than the window, as sallymo did in her great creation! However, I would use a wood rod to echo the mantel color, and I would not use the roman shades. I would have the top of the curtain go all the way to the fireplace on each side, and swag back from there. That would cover the area above the window, so that you would not know how tall the windows are, but would get the benefit of the higher hanging drapery.

Also wonder if you have ever considered using a stone stain or wash to warm up the fireplace stone? It is very nice stone, but seems so stark and white compared to the warmth of the decor.

Sallymo, Did you do that using photoshop? If so, where do you buy it? Is it expensive? Please tell me about it because we are redoing our first floor and I have no decorating abilities at all!! I would love to be able to picture what I am doing before spending money. Thanks.

sammi, I'm not a photoshop user. I have a program made especially for window treatments. It's great for me but probably more than you need as far as windows. They do also have a room arranging program.

Angelaintx: Your room looks great. Totally off topic from what you asked about but your room is exactly what my sister wants for her home, which I am helping her redecorate. She LOVES Red and wanted red but we decided to do a neutral wall with a small accent red wall in the kitchen. She has a similar fireplace, black leather furniture (in basement), same colored floors and mantle. Just yesterday I convinced her that the Xlarge cherry tv cabinet had to go and be replaced with something similar to yours. I'm going to show her the pictures you've posted, but I wondered if you could post a few others if possible?

Les, I don't think my husband would like it very much if I stained the stone. It would be beautiful, but I think for now it willl have to remain as it is...plus, I used a flash, so that made it look whiter. I also like the idea of panels all the way to the top, but I really want to cover the white blinds somehow. I really love the look of the roman shades but they are $$$. Do you think I could achieve the same look with sheers underneath the panel? I'm on the lookout for wood hardware, too. First I need to finish painting my bedroom olive branch. Only one project at a time or I get frusturated. ;)
