Area rug with king bed on wood floor

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving! Normally a lurker, but had a moment while reading and thought I'd ask a question I'll be confronted with in a few weeks (we're moving).

Master BR has wood floor and I'm wondering how to position an area rug (and what size to buy) to position under the bed? Thanks in advance for your comments..

It depends on the size of the bed and size of the room, and what other furniture you will have in there. You really need a layout to be able to answer the question ...

You can go with a large rug under 3/4 of the king size bed, but "waste" a lot of the rug under the bed. You can do a larger rug at foot of the bed and coordinating runners on either side of the bed. There is no "correct" way to do it. It also depends where you live and how cold it gets. Have you looked at Houzz.com? Lots of photos.

Whether you want wood-look or stone-look tiles, go with porcelain, and by that I mean tiles that have a water absorption rating of less than 0.5 percent. They may be more expensive than the standard ceramic stuff at first, but they will last longer. Off the top of my head, Kertiles, Emser, and Daltile all offer porcelain tiles that look either like wood or natural stone, and with advanced printing techniques it's hard to tell the difference between porcelain and the real thing. I'll provide a link to a sample I've seen in person, and it really is hard to tell it apart from hardwood unless you walk on it barefoot. Also, if you end up opting for wood-look tiles, make sure you get rectified tiles. This allows for narrower grout lines and hence more realism. Lovely serene room. I think the blue as well. Competing beiges? Yuck. The rugs are all lovely, don't get me wrong, so yuck is not a statement about them. In another application I would use the beige for sure. But as the bed frame is fabric and beige and graceful I think it should stand alone. By the way your style reminds me of a local high end designer here named Brian Gluckstein.

I did that in my guest room - no problem at all. The carpet is pretty low pile and the rug is a fairly thick sculpted type oriental. I have no pad under the rug. I also have a very short, dense wool oriental rug on the carpet in my living room. That also works fine. I have all these rugs on carpet because I moved from a house with wood floors to one with more carpet. I hope to get rid of the carpet someday when I feel like moving everything again. So then I will need the rugs and in the meantime I can't stand the plain beige carpet. In another room I have a thick wool runner that covers the width of carpet from the deck door to the wood floor in the dining area. It has no furniture on it that holds it in place so it ripples a bit. I need to find a way to keep it flat.

I have a 5x7 half under the queen bed on a wood floor. The out half is enough to make my feet comfy and extends the length of the bed.
The dust bunnies don't like it because it's easier to get them without a rug under the entire bed area.

I would buy the largest rug possible with only a foot or two around the edges showing wood. It looks luxurious, classy and comfortable.

It really does depend on the other furniture in the room. I have a king with a 5x8 at the foot and it works fine- only because of the dresser, armoire and bench also prominent in the room and the traffic flow area.

As far as a rug under the bed it's a personal preference, one I won't do as I like to easily dust mop underneath for constant dog hair although I do somewhat like the look of a continuous rug but then again when I see rugs under beds I think of all the dust and who cleans it.

Ours is an 9X12. Just enough room to show in and cover the entrance to our bedroom, plus enough on either bedside to be able to touch carpet.
