Some of you may remember that I posted about 2 blue wing back chairs last week which I ended up buying for $50.

I bought these chairs with the curved feet:

Lo and behold this morning these are posted from a sports bar (more modern legs and wider seat $50ea):

The green one in the right hand corner is what it COULD look like which would be more in "style" with my house:

Ugh...I don't know what to do? They are commercial grade wing backs valued at $900 new. They would need to be upholstered cause they look nasty. What do you think?

Should I get 2?

I prefer the sports bar chairs. I much prefer those legs to the Queen Anne legs. They also look more comfortable. Either, though, would look great reupholstered.

Does your home have any other furniture with Queen Anne legs or ball and claw? Or does the rest of your furniture have mostly straight legs?

I think it definitely depends on your style. You say the sports bar chairs fit your style more. If that is the case, I would go for them. You will always look at the Queen Anne legs and wish they were different, if you're like me.

Maybe you could go with an off-white...? Like the tones of Madam Alfred Carriere, for example...? (a touch of pink inside) Though that rose wouldn't be a good choice for there, obviously. If you went the white route, you could get a non-climbing noisette, though... Something that's a bloom machine. or maybe a pale yellow...? I really love Jude the Obscure. I know mine are just babies, but they've been doing well this year for me. a couple mini-flushes of bloom even though they were bareroots this feb. I try to cut the buds off most of them... but I just can't bare to with Jude because the blooms are so gorgeous and smell so good. Maybe Carding Mill would be a good choice?? It reportedly does well in heat Also, you could crossreference with DA roses that do well for Ingrid, because if they do well in what Ingrid calls her "oven" then they must do well for you. what if you went with something a bit more orangey... like something a bit like the Alchemist, but a bush? That would contrast so lovely with your blues/purples and still mesh with all your yellows. or what about Perle D'or? It has a lovely mix of color. :) How much will the pink be seen mixing with your other yellows in other beds...? If you decide to go with pink,... Gene Boerner is a bloom machine. I already have longissima x clausa var. normalis Purple Ladyfinger, which doesn't open. I ordered clausa last yer, but it was canceled due to deer crop mutilation. Jim's lists it as just clausa, but HL says also known as clausa var. clausa. So going for it. HL says LBS is chartreuse gold. Is that wrong? Do you grow it? "10" tall. I can so understand your indecision. I went through the VERY same thing. DH really liked the grain in the cherry, I really liked the shaker style so we went with Quince. But the stain, we had stain samples all over the house. We looked at them in daylight, at night, at an angle to the window, next to granites and flooring samples. I started out wanting the wheat color, but was told that the lighter stains can change more than the darker ones. We actually ordered cherry in the chestnut finish, but several days after the order I looked at a neighbors kitchen and changed my mind to the pecan with sienna glaze (I think it's called). They are gorgeous and look wonderful in the kitchen. We did have to send 2 back because they were out of square, but they should be replaced in about 6 to 10 days. Take your time. Your granite choice will go with any of them.

Flagstone patios are wonderful. The only downfall is that the stones have uneven surfaces which can make for difficulty leveling tables and seating. Personally, I do not like concrete. No matter how carefully it is installed, ground settling, climate change etc. cause cracks to develop. Consequently, I installed pavers. They can be lifted and re-leveled is necessary to maintain an even surface. I believe there are even flagstone looking pavers made now. The base compacting below the install is the critical element and if you have experienced contractors to consider, ask them what they believe works best in your climate. Good luck.

Maybe you can switch out the legs on the chairs that you have. They may just be screwed on. Search around or talk to your upholstery shop about what you can get instead. Good wood legs cost $10-16 up here, though I admit it's hard to find anything other than QA that long.

The sports bar chairs in contrast may have through-going legs (continued from the frame) and might be stronger... and impossible to change.

Overall, I too tend toward going to where you will have no regrets. If you didn't pay too much on CL, you can usually sell what you've bought and stay quasi-even. If it's a loss, I call it a cheap way to try something out or learn something.

I suspect the upholstery job, if you have it done at a shop, will set you back some 1000 to 1500. I like to do that only on furniture that I absolutely LOVE. THAT is money you don't get back when you sell.

Sometimes I wish I thought things through a little more before I screeched out of the yard to buy these things I drag home. I *know* I don't like the ones I bought but they were such a good deal and I thought I could learn to love them. I don't like that style of leg and don't have another single piece like it. ugh, what was I thinking? (slap across the forehead)

I phoned the person selling the new ones I found today and had 2 reserved to view on monday. If they are more in what I envisioned I will relist these ones on Kijiji and easily make my money back.

Whoa, as I type this I realize that maybe I shouldn't be buying any! ummm...good thing I have time to think about it till monday.

jakabedy: good question, but one we don't worry much about here because smoking is NOT allowed in any public places including restaurants, bars, shopping centers or hotels! Such a relief! Not sure if it is the same in USA

Get the sports bar chairs and resell the CL chairs. Wing back chairs with Queen Anne legs still appeal to many people, so I don't think you'll have any problem. You may even make a few dollars :)

I agree with the others. Get the sports bar chairs. Small details like that matter to me too, & I can see how once re-done, they'll be ideal. You can't beat that price.

Can you use the others elsewhere in your house? Perhaps a bedroom or guestroom?
