Wow, our sofas are twins. I,too, have the full size and love seat. Sometimes the sheer 'brown-ness' of the room overwhelms me. I have a fairly small living room, too...didn't know how small until the furniture arrived. lol

My walls are a peachy tan right now which contributes to the brown-ness. I'm thinking of going a bit more yellow...the current favorite is BMs Hawthorne Yellow. Lots of green undertones, but still warm. I'm also waffling on green walls. I bought a lovely green rug with gold and red accents...it looks great with my leather.

You could always go dark brick red with some green accents...hunt club look.

I have found cheery sunflower yellow accents work for me. It's a color I love, so I'm happy to sew up throw pillows in sunflower type patterns. Dark brick red, rich purples, and greens also go with the leather.

Thermsen --just read your post and I am in the same boat you are. My leather sofa is about your color maybe a tad darker and it looks bad against my goldy tan walls(guesthouse by benjamin moore). I also have an accent wall that is a barn red color . I am considering painting the entire room the red color. My room also changes color depending on the time of day. I do believe a deep red would make your sofa stand out. Goodluck.

Is your sofa brown or caramel? I have a sofa I describe as peanut-butter colored and it's caused me a lot of problems with paint color. I had a beautiful gold color, with green undertones, on the walls of my great room. At night, I loved it. During the day, the yellow tones became dominant and really made me hate the color of the sofa. It was like the wall color was cool against the warm color of the sofa and was just "off". I recently repainted a gold with tan undertones, and I love it so much more. I use olive with it. I just couldn't see green walls, and I couldn't live with red walls in a main living area.

Here is a sofa similar in color from Pottery Barn but in this picture, the walls are pretty light. I think with your color leather, it's almost like working with honey/orangish colored cabinets...It's hard to find a tan or gold that works well.

What alwaysonestepbehind said makes so much sense. That is exactly what the problem is. The picture really helps too. Did not mean to hijack this post but am having the same problem.

Mine was in this chocolate room until two weeks ago...now it is in the navy walls of the former DR. I haven't had any problem with the caramel color...move ALL the way away from the color into another whole area. Contrast is the key, I think . Here is a pic of the sofa with chocolate. And one of the navy before we moved the sofa...haven't finished the transition but it looks wonderful. c

Also the Oriental rug has navy and rust etc in it and we moved it to the new room so it still all fits. c

I really like that Pottery Barn Picture with the pale blue wall. It reminded me of Pure Style Home Blog. She redid her basement with blue walls, white trim and furniture and the color of your couch was her accent color. I think it looks very fresh and modern. Maybe you could do a blue between the pottery barn blue and hers. I think it would lighten everything up!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have been so busy with painting my trim that I haven't had the chance to come and check the forum out. I am considering painting the walls BM Estruscan. It would blend the walls to the sofa rather than contrast them. The problem is that the ceilings are about 20 feet high and are on a slope. The PO put a molding (too thin in my opinion) about 10' up from the floor. This makes it so that you can paint the room without painting the 20' high ceiling. Above the molding and the entire ceiling in the family room is painted SW Camelback (one shade lighter than the Whole Wheat that I painted. Because of this, the color below the molding needs to complement the Camelback making my choices more limited. The problem with the Whole Wheat is that it gives off a green tint at night that I don't care for and that it's just not very exciting, not to mention that it's a big room and it's not very welcoming. I also don't have any artwork for the walls yet or drapery, which I know makes all the difference but I just don't think that I'm going to ever love this room with the current colors on the wall. I have considered green but I don't think I'd like it in this big of a space.
