dark burgundy cabinets what color wood flooring?
Comments (6)You probably don't want to hear from me, because I agree with your dh for 2 reasons...I do think it'd be tough to get a dark floor color that wouldn't compete with and create a very dark overall feel with the dark burgundy cabs...But also, we have Brazilian Cherry floors, which I didn't think were that dark on the samples, but are too dark for me in practical, everyday life. Any of the slightest scratches look white...and these come from anyplace furniture sits on it, anything is moved across them with any tiny bit of sand on it, and from normal movements of pets and family. Also, the dust and pet hair seems to be magnified. They just never look clean...and look dirtier than a lighter floor might. Just a heads up so that you might not be disappointed later, like I am. You might consider something like oak with a darker stain put on so that the grain and some color variation is allowed to show through. This could be a happy medium for you and your dh on the lightness and darkness issue, would allow the dark, solid burgundy cabinets to stand out, and solve the dirt and scratch-hiding issues, too....See MoreShow me your dark/espresso type cabinets
Comments (39)sparx44 - My kitchen now is maple with a chestnut stain, so relatively dark. I too had heard that maple can come out blotchy, but I think mine came out really nice. We are moving and doing a new kitchen that is why I want to do something a little different now. I just taped off around the cabinetry and spray painted the cabinetry in place. I did take off the wood cornice on the light fixture as well as the cabinet doors and drawer fronts and painted those outside. From ... http://christys-thriftydecorating.blogspot.com/2008/08/making-bathroom-cabinets-look.html There are so many techniques these days for faux finishing furniture and walls. I've tried many of them with much success. For these cabinets I decided to use sponging, except I never really use a sponge. A lambswool pad works much better for me. I purchased a few of them at Home Depot. Blending the colors is much smoother using the lambswool. I always sand lightly first. This makes the wood grab the paint much better. These cabinets were high gloss anyway, so they definitely needed a sanding. I painted the base coat a rusty orange-a scary color if you ask me. While the cabinet is still somewhat wet, I come along and blend a dark brown color over the orange, always moving my wrists and blending, blending, blending. Above you can see more clearly the blended colors. Just for some additional detail to these cabinets, I ran some gold Rub & Buff on the edges of the panels. I always have this stuff on hand for adding decorative touches. I purchased mine at Michael's Craft store. It also comes in many different colors. Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations There are 35 kitchen cabinet colors in the Transformations line right now, add glaze and they offer 70 looks in all. They had a bundle of wood tones. Comments (15)Thanks for all your responses. What do you think of Brazilian Arabescato granite? Ive also seen it labeled as quartzite but the person at the granite yard said this Brazilian Arabescato slab is granite. pic below what do you think? too dark for dark cabinets? As far as the KCMA cabinets, What do the tests entail? I saw a KCMA cabinets at a warehouse and they had pressed wood on the walls which concerned me. They just didn't seem as good of quality as these Chinese ones that I chose, yet the Chinese ones were a couple thousand dollars cheaper. The Chinese ones felt more sturdy and had plywood build all around, also they were soft close with drawers that seemed more solid. Have you heard of that Chinese brand Maywood cabinets? Do they have a bad rep or something? This post was edited by yorkiemiki on Tue, Dec 24, 13 at 13:59...See Morecaminnc
