One last faucet vote--I'm desperate!
Comments (28)breezy- I'd recommend that you look at your Moen shower valve trim (the EXACT ONE) in person before committing. As you probably know, it's a lot more difficult to switch shower faucets than lav or tub, because the valve is inside the wall and not compatible with other manufacturer's trims. We got a Moen shower valve for DD's bathroom and I was shocked when we installed it how unfinished it looked. You can actually see the raw valve stem and screws... it's not all beautifully finished like my Kohler stuff in the master. It looks cheap. That said, it's one of the less pricey ones they make, I think (Monticello) so hopefully yours is better. I assume you're getting the thermostatic valve? I think that ours had the Moentrol valve. The issue is that the way this particular valve/trim combo works, you set the temp by rotating the handle, then pull it out/push it in to turn the water on/off. The center post behind the handle is fully visible at all times, especially when in the "on" position, and it is NOT finished. Not chrome, just what they call "stainless finish" which is really just a grey, raw-looking metal. Yuck. By contrast, the Kohler Purist thermostatic valve has one handle, then there's another for volume control. Both are nice, finished pieces. I'd looked at the same style valve trim in the showroom, but for the pressure-balance valve, and it did not have this issue. So it was a surprise and disappointment. I'd gotten it on eBay for about 20% of retail, so I couldn't complain nor return it, but I would have been pissed if I'd paid full retail. So, I'm just saying: make sure you see the EXACT one you're getting in person and installed someplace......See MoreSeeking votes/opinions - Uppers on BS Window and Sink Wall
Comments (83)@ sena01 - Thanks for the personal experience with this kind of thing. It always helps hearing from people who have been there. And for your vote! @island - Aunt lives between Naples and Ft. Myers. I haven't been down there yet, but it sounds beautiful. The pics are great. They have a floorplan I would love, with the whole house centered around the back in a big U. That would so not work in Alaska, given you need every inch of sun here you can get. But, I just love that kind of floorplan. Now that I understand what you are liking, I can mock some things up. I do want to make the point, though, that those 18" cabinets are slightly over 1/2 the size of the 30" uppers. Isn't that what you said you preferred? @mpagmom - Well, I gotta say, that's a pretty cool sink. I don't know how hard it would be to find a sink like that or how much it would cost. Also, not sure if it really works with what I am doing here? I can sure look into it, though. I assume you are talking about the greenish kitchen when you say dark gray? That is a nice kitchen. You know, Marcolo used those exact words on me - "think slate". I'm just not really finding one I like - except the one on the back of that peninsula in the pic I posted again above. And, my neighbor friend directly across the street has a slate BS and I don't really want to do the same thing... Good question, Deedles. I know we don't have any current problems with that, but the cabinets are raised up. I want whatever is in the punch bowl, though. Monday morning or not. My partner mocked up what it might feel like at the sink last night by clamping up a board. I'm not having any problems with it, being short. He wasn't loving it. We are going to leave it up for a while and see how it feels over time....See MorePls help - Franke Sink - am I wasting my money?
Comments (13)I have two large 30" stainless sinks in my kitchen. One is a Franke sink with a half "shelf" ledge. The "shelf" is the reason I bought it. The "shelf" is a joke, because the ledge is very small and sloped, so if anything of any substantial weight is placed on the shelf, it crashes down into the sink! The other is a relatively CHEAP sink by Ticor, bought for just over $200 from Galaxy Tool Supply. It is 16 gauge SS, is equally as sound-dampening as the Franke even with garbage disposal running and looks just as nice. You'd never think twice about my two sinks when using them. It's not a bit noticeable that one cost hundreds less than the other! Bottom line - After living with both sinks for over 2 years, I wish I had skipped the Franke sink and gone with two Ticors and saved hundreds of dollars! In fact, the Ticor sink is the one used most, since it is next to my stove and because there is no shelf in it, it is the easier sink to use for hand washing large items. Comments (6)Lots of splashing here too (we have the Grohe Minta), but that faucet fits the design and scale of our kitchen perfectly so it's a fair trade-off. It doesn't splash more than about 4 inches behind the sink though (and we have about a foot to the back edge of the island). I just grab a good ol microfiber and wipe the island down around the sink (and put the microfiber under the sink to dry so I don't need to blow through the paper towels. DH uses enough of those for both of us!! Can't get him to just use a microfiber cloth, but at least he does try to keep things tidy and dry!)...See Moreromy718
