It's pulling hot food out of the microwave on top that will be unsafe, unless you & your family are really tall. You should be apprehensive; it's not a good idea. Microwave ovens should be positioned near the R/F, since that's the source of most food that goes into a MW. Positioning either a countertop or built-in MW on or under the countertop is far preferable for safety & ease of use, especially since you use a MW a lot. Another option is to get a range, which will provide you with one oven, and stack the MW over a single electric convection oven. Our 36" DCS range oven is huge & can handle full size baking sheets. If you have kids, they can learn at an early age to safely use the MW & start being independent, but only if they can reach it without climbing on something. Otherwise you will be doing what they could be doing far longer than any of you will like.

I have just found this thread and between it and the "Advantium over single oven" thread, I am finding I am not the only one with these questions. At 5'1" I am the primary cook and am afraid if I put the Advantium at a comfortable height so I can reach over the hot Advantium door safely, then the regular wall oven would be so low as to have the ergonomic benefit of a wall oven fairly negligible. I am leaning toward a regular, swing door microwave instead, as I can easily access it, even at a higher level, and I wouldn't have the learning curve of the Advantium to contend with. But the trim kit for the Monogram microwave is the same as the Profile trim kit and is curved on the top, which I don't like. I do like the function and aesthetics of the Monogram integrated oven, but may go to Wolf single oven with micro-convection if the Monogram combination dilemma isn't solved in my head. Other short people???

A combi oven is much broader in function than a steam oven. . I would look at Miele, plumbed version. It functions as a steam oven but also as a full on convection oven but with control of humidity. It is sort of self steaming. I think for some people , the combi oven is a great choice. I don’t have one because I don’t have room for a third oven and need the space of my 36” and 30” ovens. Any application if steam that I need, I can do a different way.

wiscokid Thanks for your concern. I have posted my house plan before and have been scolded with not very nice comments. I know my design is terrible but I have been working at it while I wait for other people to have time for me. Without going into great detail--I need to make things the same only larger using the design I have now. Expanding my kitchen has gone wrong on all levels. Right now we live in a 2 level home and I am trying to get as much in our new home all on one level. Basically, I was asking a question about where to put my microwave with the pull-down door--above or below the french door single wall oven. And yes, I will have 2 french door single wall ovens and that is another story. Some are insistent on telling me to get a microwave drawer--I do not like microwave drawers. Thanks again.
