wear/scratch resistant flooring-help

Small budget (big labor) kitchen reno (#2). #1 was in prior house...We have had and do not want hard tile/stone. We also currently have sheet vinyl and dont want that either.

Our adjoining living/dining oak floors are worn after just a couple years after refinishing from the 2 dogs and 3 kids.

Been looking at the slate pattern laminates (Dupont, Krauss, Quadra); a brazilian chesnut strip hardwood; and a glue down cork tile...

We're painting a cabs a frosted casa blanca white and have white counters so need a darkish floor.

I've read until we are confused to death & all the samples seem to scratch easily. Other than the 2 best choices (tile & vinyl) we've already thrown out, what are the best options???
