Second thoughts on Golden Beach Granite

I went to the granite yard and chose a Golden Beach granite for my kitchen countertop. I am having second thoughts and would welcome any recommendatons. My house is a Cape Cod style that is situated on the Bow River. The house is rustic inside and has a beautiful view of the river from the kitchen. The kitchen has medium coloured oak flooring and the new cupboards will be a cognac colour with a dark brown on the island. I am so confused as there were too many choices and I cannot visualize what it will look like once finished. I am hoping that it won't be too dark or too yellow.

r some reason when you described your choices and view... I immediately thought of Yellow River.

I like Remodelfla's suggestion too. My daughter has Golden beach on her medium cherry cabinets and it is a darker feel.
Pretty but if you want a lighter look then I would keep looking. My friend has Santa Cecelia on medium cherry cabinets and is whining it is too dark. So if you need a lighter feeling try for more cream in it. Your home sounds so nice with a river view. Lucky you!

Hi, I have Golden Queen granite and it is gorgeous! Everyone who sees my kitchen can't get over how beautiful the granite is. I get the most compliments on my granite. Even the GC couldn't believe how beautiful it is (and he is a crusty old man!). My KD wanted to put the granite as a backsplash behind the stove. But I have a very small kitchen and was afraid that the movement in the granite would be too much for such a small kitchen. But she felt the granite was so beautiful that she wanted to show more of it. I didn't go with her idea because the kitchen is so small. Instead I have a cream color tumbled marble backsplash but still wonder how the granite would have looked behind the stove. I would send you pictures of my kitchen but I don't have a digital camera or a scanner. The colors in my granite are browns, beige, cream, and rust with a bit of silver and black (which goes wonderful with the stainless appliances). The granite has bits of quartz crystals that make it just sparkle and as a friend tonight said, make it seem like it is 3D! The rest of my kitchen is earth tones with light brown cherry chestnut cabinets and a patterned cork floor. The hardware is oil rubbed bronze and the appliances are stainless. I don't know what colors or style your kitchen is but I just love my granite and would highly recommend Golden Queen. Of everything that has been remodeled in my kitchen and house, I love my granite the best! Good luck deciding on your granite! My vote is for Golden Queen! Karen

Realism, actually the more I look at granite, I prefer the laminate. With some of the laminates and the new effects, I actually had to go over and knock on them to determine if they were real or not. We're going with bull-nosed edging on the laminate so I don't think it'll look cheap when it's finished. Hemera, ha, yeah I asked the builder about the floor…he was polite but basically said "yeah, you can't afford it…" ;) Ppbenn, yay! :) 35ftcabo, I LOVE your kitchen! Do you know the style/name of the handles you chose? That's what I'm looking for and haven't quite found yet. And in your first pic, what is the cabinet behind the peninsula? It almost looks like a hutch…was that a custom piece? It's gorgeous! Phoebesmom, do you have any photos of your finished kitchen? I'd love to see it "in action" rather than just the sample piece I've got. I really love the color, too!

nasalzak, The tiles you have should be mesh backed. You can "peel" individual tiles off and replace them with tiles of the same size. This can be done while still doing the install as a 12x12 sheet. I believe jodi in ca did this with her Jeffrey Court Fire and Ice backsplash. She took off some darker ones and added lighter glass tiles to brighten it up. Make sure the little tiles are the same size (they often say they are 1x1 but are actually 5/8 x5/8) and the same thickness (1/4 or 1/8). If you then wanted to get really creative you could insert/sprinkle some red glass in the copper, create a 3" or so wide strip of border, and continue with the copper above that. You wouldn't need that much redish glass tile depending on how much backsplash space you have. HOpe that helps a little.

I've got the double Cafe Brown Silgranit sink, a medium cafe brown Silgranit for a prep, ORB fixtures and SS appliances. I am thrilled with them all. The sinks are so easy to keep looking clean. I did order a grid for one side of my double, which I find I use infrequently to drain clean dishes. And I use the prep sink grid all of the time to wash fruits and veggies. I think you will be very happy with your choices! I was close to going with a large sink bowl clean up sink, but I knew I would go crazy not having a dedicated spot for washing on one side and rinsing on the other. I am so glad I stuck with my double bowl set up. I am sure you'll be thrilled once you are using everything and in the new space!

We were actually deciding between Yellow River and Golden Wave. Golden Wave might be close to Golden Beach depending upon the slabs. In the end, we made the choice for Yellow River because of the contrast between the ligher granite and the darker cherry cabinets. After comparing the two we decided the Golden Wave was darker and just not as interesting as the Yellow River.

We have Golden Beach. It doesn't come off as dark at all in our kitchen. We have a 7 foot window that doesn't get direct sunlight.

This is NOT a great picture, but it's the only one I have easy access to right now. It's a fairly good indication though of how it comes off as a good medium - not light, but not dark. Definately not yellow - some rust, but no yellows, at least not in our slab.

I have been looking at granite for weeks. Golden Beach is my favorite. And I have looked at hundreds of stones. My cabinets will be an almond color. Maybe China White. I would go with Golden Beach and paint your cabinets for the lighter feel.
