Marcolo and others...help with vintage countertops

I've been doing a bit of research, but I don't know how accurate all this is...and would appreciate the GW gurus' opinions :)

According to a few Internet articles, marble was a popular kitchen countertop choice in the 1920s...but what about tile or soapstone? I've seen those were easily available, too.

And, same sources...in the 1950s, countertops were formica/laminates, ceramic tile and some butcher block.

Is this correct? Any other popular choices? I'm working on an idea...and thinking about making the kitchen more of a 1950s style, with the pantry/baking area more of a 1920s style...as if the house was remodeled in the 1950s, but they didn't change the pantry. (And in my little fairy tale scenario, they didn't change the trim or windows either...so I'm bringing those back to the 1920s look.)

Any other ideas are always welcome...thanks in advance :)
