please help with direction of wood look tile
Comments (7)I have wood flooring laid on the diagonal and love the look of it. I think with your floor plan it would be a great solution to not having it look wrong in one room or the other. Here is how my floor looks going from my great room area to the kitchen/dining area. I have the wood floor on the diagonal for both connecting hallways too. Hope the picture gives you an idea of how yours would look with tile...See MoreUsing wood look tiles in the bedroom?
Comments (32)"I can't think of anyone in the construction business who would be happy with a customer looking over their shoulder and micromanaging every detail of the installation." Yes, and no. I can assure you that as a customer, I have no interest in and am also not happy about micromanaging a job. Unfortunately, I live and learn almost every single time when someone does work on my house. And these are all highly recommended and certainly not cheap companies. In fact, I'm sure the owners would have appreciated it had I micromanaged their workers. (Like a "painter" not bothering to open the windows when painting windows on the outside and the still not only be half painted but all windows painted shut. The company owner was mortified and furious. Or roofers not bothering to cover up the outside faucets before removing the heavy cedar shingles despite my telling them. Well, yes, one faucet broke off; again, an unhappy roof company owner.) Greenhaven, what tiles are these? Thinking about something like this for my finished basement....See MoreStaining? Comments (11)Our moisture issue eventually went away. Our tiles were not porcelain, they were ceramic. They absorbed water almost as well as a sponge. If I put a drop on the back it just soaked right in. We had troubles at two stages. One was during the wet sawing of the tiles. The cut edges absorbed lots of water. They were installed and the dark areas went away in a few days. The second problem was water getting in (it was a shower) through the joint between the wall and the floor. Caulking the joint took care of that problem, but it took a lot longer to dry out and go away, perhaps weeks?...See MoreBamboo floors not laid randomly, has this ruined the look?
Comments (9)I'm seeing a floor that has 3 staggers. By the looks of this floor it will meet 'technical' specifications for off-set of seams...but that's about it. Not all installation instructions recommend 'random' installation procedures...mainly because they assume the person installing it is a flooring professional...not just some person who swings a hammer. The contractor is incorrect. Most people do NOT want their floors laid in a pattern. What s/he was trying to do was to encourage you to say, "Yah. Ok. No problem." not knowing that what you WANTED was random. Sigh. I'm sorry but this is an ugly install. It *most likely meets minimum spacing requirements...but that's it. What you are seeing is a common pattern for TILE!!!! Not wood, bamboo, laminate or vinyl. Quick question: What type of 'professional' did you hire? Did you hire a wood flooring professional or did you hire a general contractor who said they can lay wood (like) flooring? Best thing to do is find the installation instructions and tell him/her to STOP! The more you allow the install to go ahead, the more flooring you will have to remove and reinstall....See MoreIvan I
