What do you like best about your new kitchen?
Comments (26)As Divamum noted- I am amazed at the change in quality of life for our whole family. We went from tiny horrible nasty 1920's kitchen (fridge blocked a doorway, no counter space, stove blocked doorway, no vent....) to a marvelous kitchen that has the perfect feel. We captured 1920's charm with modern convenience. The space is so functional now- so much counterspace that it doesn't matter if there's a mess, there's still plenty of room. There's better lighting, more room all over. Not to mention a Wolf range that is amazing and a nice new fridge (Thermador freedom). Nothing hides in the back, nothing freezes in the fridge. We have this marvelous invention that is called a "dishwasher". My whole adult life I'VE been the dishwasher... On top of the function, there is beautiful soapstone that goes without oiling for months, and a beautiful floor of checkered marmoleum. Most of all, the function and space have now set me free to cook with my kids and throw dinners together after a long day out at work. We did tons of holiday baking and used cookie cutters for the first time (never had a clean enough, roomy enough kitchen to take that sort of time and care). The sheer space and pleasantness make the kitchen a focus for lots of living and entertainment. I'll also note the little desk we worked in to the side corner allows my husband or I to work late, but still be with family, and/or allows my daughter to do crafts galore. I knew I was yearning for a new kitchen, but I never thought it could make this kind of difference....See MoreDid you feel like your new kitchen wasn't really ''yours''?
Comments (13)I had kind of the opposite feeling. We have lived in this house 11 years, and that whole time, I felt like I was using someone else's kitchen. Nothing about it was something I would have chosen or placed where it was. I liked the color of the countertop (black), but I hated everything else about it the whole time. I didn't do much of anything to change it because we were always "about to" start the remodel. When my new kitchen was finished (or mostly finished, since we still have a few things to do), I felt like I was walking into my own kitchen for the first time. I still feel so incredibly right at home in there. I did get a tiny bit of the "this is too nice to be mine" feeling you describe, but it was quickly replaced by the "damn it, this is what I deserved all along!" feeling. :)...See MoreWhat color do you like to "POP" in your kitchen?
Comments (24)four--what was your fabric?--very pretty. Our almost done kitchen has off white cabs, a grey counter and light blue glass tiles.Roman shade is a neutral linen. I have blue, turquoise and green pottery as planned accents. I also think any pop of color like pink, orange or yellow flowers will go. It's a pretty neutral palette but I love the neutral tones. Oh and a driftwood platter with turquoise and green sea glass. We'll see--I'll be able to rotate colors with moods I think!...See MoreDo you all like your kitchen's built-in soap dispenser?
Comments (22)Hm, sounds like Shannon_WI has the ticket! Since you *have* to have an air gap for inspection, you *have* to have a hole for that, right? Once inspection is over, you can choose to replace the air gap with a dispenser if your dishwasher has a high loop installed (as Shannon_WI said) or if you want to keep the air gap, you can get a combo air gap and soap dispenser. While it's usually possible to drill holes after installation (though definitely dusty messy and not to be preferred!), it's impossible to un-drill a hole. Yes, there are little plugs that can be put in but those are sure not as attractive as your beautiful stone countertop. I have had a Never Empty that I got a lot of exercise from because I had to pump pump pump to get any soap from it. I have had a top-fill dispenser that, no matter what I tried including long straws, would get air bubbles while filling that caused the soap to overflow onto the sink and counter. These could easily just be my personal soap deficiencies so YMMV! I currently have a soap/dish soap/ lotion triumvirate from Williams-Sonoma that I can refill as I like, doesn't fall over, and always works. Winner for my very particular (lack of soap-dispenser-filling) set of skills!...See Morenhbaskets
