Maytag DW (warm control panel) OK?

My nine year old Maytag dishwasher is under recall for fire hazard due to the possibility of Jet Dry leaking on to the wiring. Tech came out to replace the door and wiring. After he left, I noticed that the control panel on the outside of the door was slightly warm (dishwasher door engaged but dw not running). It's never been warm the previous nine years when the dw isn't running. Called tech back to the house. He called Maytag who said it's normal. Tech said "I'd keep the door open when not using it, just to be safe" :o

The control panel on my KA range is slightly warm. Same on the GE microwave control panel. I understand the concept of why it would/could be and that it's normal. BUT, my concern is that for the first nine years of it's life, the control panel on the outside of the dw door was NOT warm to the touch when not running. The fact that it's now warm after replacing the door, THAT is what concerns me. New technician just left. Today was the third service call (different tech). He promises me it's normal. I just can't be so sure. Is the control panel on YOUR dw slightly warm (when not in use)?

How did you find out about your DW being under recall? Mine is about the same age as yours - model DWU8330AAX - I think it's about 9 or 10 years old.

But no, mine hasn't run a cycle since last night and it's perfectly cool to the touch.

You might try the Appliance 411 forum linked below. I've gotten loads of help on my appliances from folks there!

Thank you for your reply Donna. I just happen to find out when I called Maytag to see how old my dishwasher was. Started having cleaning problems and since the racks needed replaced ($100 each :o) I thought it might just be better to get a new dishwasher. I thought it was around 8 years old. After I gave her the model and serial numbers, she told me the dw was under a recall and immediately disconnect it from the power source :o
Problem is the Jet Dry dispenser leaking onto the wiring and causing a fire. I'd never used Jet Dry so i wasn't worried about it but certainly let them come out and replace the door. Tech is trying to tell me that the control panel on the old door was warm too but I never noticed it :o Excuse me? I would have noticed it! Call Maytag with your serial number and serial number and they can tell you if yours is recalled.

I generally half step into my shower to turn it on. I usually just aim the shower head at the wall briefly until the water feels warm enough not to make me miserable. Mine isn't remodeled, but I suspect this will be about the same when I remodel.

The part is available. One of the online sources I often uses lists it as in-stock, $129.78. The site also has diagrams showing the unit's construction, which can be helpful in doing the repair. Another source lists is at $181.55 ... one should always shop the item around for best price. The original part number is apparently 74002674, which substitutes now to 12001305. You can search for those numbers, or the model number CHE9800BCM, via Google or directly at other parts sources to do price comparisons.

Ya know, they were lucky, as I recall, you gotta have a funny like key thingie to remove the oven from the cabinet as I recalls, and I haven't the foggiest notion where mine is (removal Key). I best finds that succer, practice how to use it, and then put it where I know where it is! If the oven was off, when this happened, it should be reported to the proper safety committee, if it was off, "Your call", myself I might wait to see what Electrolux has to say, but if it turned itself on, then that's pretty serious! I had a cooktop, (Not Electrolux & not induction) that turned itself full on one nite and scared the *&%#@% (well you know), out of me! The company that made it went belly up, or I would have reported it. Gary
