Show Me Your Kashmir Whites :)

I was going to dive into Ceasarstone, but still not completely sold on it, so I asked my KD to price some granite for me. I'm looking for calm movement in a light tone and Kashmir White came in less than the Ceasarstone (another consideration since that was a bit more than I wanted to spend).

My cabinets, are Kraftmaid, Quarter Sawn Oak in "Kaffe" finish, Shaker style. SS appliances, and I'm going with ORB fixtures and hardware. I haven't seen it in person yet, hopefully going this week. I think this color will tie in the brown tones of the cabinets and hardware, and lighten up the room since it doesn't get too much direct sunlight.

I looked on the Blog, but there isn't a category for this color in the countertops, so if anyone would be so kind as to post theirs here, I'd really appreciate it.

I have River White, which is similar. No picts yet. I'll try to post one later. We also looked at engineered stone for white counters. I am SO HAPPY with my white granite. It's so sparkly. It's our favorite part of the new kitchen.

We have ORB handles and one sink that is copper/ORB. It matches those, as well as stainless, beautifully. The silver-white mica flecks look great with our stainless sink. I love that it has real gemstones in it. The red dots are garnets. The would look great with the reddish tones in Kaffe, which is a similar shade to our cherry dining table.

Check out River White too. There isn't a lot of movement, but I found it to be a little more interesting than Kashmir White. We went to the granite yard to look at Kashmir white and ended up getting River White, so if you can find both these slabs in the same place, you can compare them.

Thanks so much Jem. I'll ask about the River White too while there. Hopefully it will price out about the same.

I just am not completely sold on the engineered stone. Close, but not there. I had granite in my last home and loved it. Never had a problem with it the 8 years I was there and each day I was in the kitchen, it made me happy to look at it.

If you get a chance to post a photo, that would be great :)

We had originally put a couple slabs of kashmir white on hold and were setting up to have it fabricated for our kitchen. I loved it and went home to look up photos of kitchens with this granite and instead I found site after site of people complaining about staining. It really freaked me out and I brought up my concerns with our fabricator. They doubled sealed a sample of the kashmir white for us to take home and I did some testing with it. I put a few different things on the granite for about 10-20 minutes. Tomato sauce, oil and juice. All 3 stained horribly after I cleaned them off. I have read there are things you can do to get out stains but I certainly did not want to deal with a high maintenance granite like that, especially with 3 young children. We ditched the kashmir and went with something darker. I do like the look of the kashmir better though.

I went back and forth on this a million times, ORB or Satin Nickel...exposed hinges or hidden hinges...I ended up with exposed hinges in ORB (thanks to advice and pics from GW) and I really do like it. My ORB hinges and knobs look more black in the photos but they aren't quite as dark in person and have a warmer undertone. Be sure you see the ORB in person because some ORB is more on the brown side and some has a blacker tone, like mine. My cabinets aren't as creamy as some, they are more white, but a soft white and I don't think it's too jarring. Good luck, it's so exciting when you get down to those final details isn't it?!

I lied (on accident). I got my kitchen glass knobs from Van Dyke's. I don't know what line they are since they didn't state. I do know they're glass. They may be Schaub since they're polished nickel. I just realized that our bathroom knobs are the Amerock since they came in the satin nickel. But we didn't order those for the kitchen since I wanted polished. The knobs look the same though, except for thr base finish. I paid more for the bathroom knobs because Van Dyke's was having a really good sale at the time.

Lexmom, I have a Jennair 'fully integrated built in' refrigerator...wanted to get that term correct because I get terribly confused sometimes by the many nuances of built in/integrated fridges :). It was my splurge, to reference another topic, on the kitchen because in a narrow dark galley I wanted to maximize the open feel as much as possible. Doing the built in eliminated a large refrigerator looming into the space and the panel seems to keep the eye traveling in a smooth path along the cabinetry. I've had many people tell me my kitchen looks "so much larger now" which is nice. Have linked to the refrigerator info below. And while I'm here what isn't so nice is that comment oceangirl. As someone pointed out, it seemed gratuitously mean, not sure why you would take the time to post something snarky in an otherwise pleasant online conversation. We were looking for white-ish granites, but decided against the Kashmir White because it has maroon dots (which are garnet chips, which sounds lovely, but the maroon dots just didn't go in our kitchen). We also wanted more movement, and Kashmir White is more consistently patterned which you've said is more your preference. Those kinds of choices are a matter of taste, so you really should look at the slabs of the various white granites to see which you like. Asking your "KD to price some granite" isn't very useful if you haven't seen the granite. Better to go to a stoneyard, either with your KD or not, and then take samples home and/or let him/her know which ones you liked.

We also looked at Delicatus and Bianco Antico which are only slightly different from each other. We ended up with Alaska White which is similar to the Delicatus and Antico in that it has a white background with gray and black veins and striations. I found that the names don't mean much, as there isn't much consistency among stoneyards. E.g. the Delicatus at one yard looked more like the Antico at another yard, and vice-versa.
