Viking Induction Repair - Yikes!

I have a Viking Professional Series cooktop that was installed in June, 2006. The large 9,000kw induction burner is broken. I got an estimate for a new burner (one month after the limited warranty expired - great luck!) and the cost is over $800 dollars plus labor!. Has anyone had a similar experience with a Viking repair? I know things break but if I knew before hand the cost to fix an induction unit I would have NEVER gotten one in the first place!
