'tuning up' my tired looking cabinets...Help!

We just moved into a home with mid 90s medium colored oak cabinets. They are actually still in really good shape and are very sturdy, but they are just looking a little tired. We have considered having the faces/doors refinished, but after getting quotes, it's just not in the budget right now. And since my DH and I work opposite schedules and have small children at home, we would NEVER be able to do a refinishing job ourselves right now. It would take us 10 years to get it done - like 1 cabinet door every 2 months! So I'm wondering if there is a way I can just clean them really good, and then somehow "warm" them up a bit without all of the sanding and removing them from hinges, etc... And is there a way I can protect them to prevent future damage? A professional refinishing job will probably be in our future in a few years, but I just need to find a way to bridge it till we can get to that point. Thanks so much!
