It's beautiful. You've done a fabulous job of matching the cabinets and counter to the backslash and the granite dots tie it all together. Just lovely.

I really like the look, too! Cutting the tiles to fit in the granite dots must be challenging. Hats off for great work!

I like the pattern a lot -- it's just enough different to add visual interest, and the colors go very well with your cabs & granite. It also looks like a technically difficult pattern, so I hope your DH is proud of his excellent workmanship! Enjoy!

I like it a lot, and am going to be doing something quite similar. I do not have the tiles yet- but have been playing and drawing it all out as well. I LOVE the accent tiles on the diagonal- that is an absolute so far. Trying to decide if I want the field tiles diagonal or straight.. but in any case yours look fabulous and I am so thankful to be able to see it - rather than my stunning drawing skill.
About how far apart are the accents tiles? My visual estimating (ha) skills tell me about 10" apart? I definitely can relate to not wanting them too high or too low.
By the way I love your trim molding.
(I have similar cabinet color and backsplash tile but dark granite counter and dark accents).

I like it but I worry that any portion of the backsplash that is not covered w/"counter stuff" will seem unbalanced. Perhaps this would be too busy for you, but I think it would look more balanced if there was a third row of "dots" that lines up w/the topmost row (each travertine tile w/cuts for the topmost row would also have cuts for the bottommost row). I realize this means more tile cutting (and those cuts don't look easy to me).

I think it looks GREAT! And good thinking about the stuff on the counters. It will look even better with the stuff on the counters. One poster said something about adding a third row. I respectfully disagree - and feel that it would be too busy and circus-ie looking with 3 rows. Nice cabinets too! I especially like the rope looking light rail. It adds a bit of "oomph"!

I think it's lovely...except the missing tile towards the corner bothers me some....But I am the type of person to actually make the effort to follow the pattern and see if it's missing :) I' put that one in there...stuff like that is the difference between obvious diy and pro work...and it's so nicely done...it should be in the pro quality arena :)

Thanks for all of your input, I really appreciate it! I agree that a third row would be too busy and initially was worried that this would be too busy. We lived with a brown paper mock-up with faux dots that we printed out in photo shop and cut to the 2". We had it this way and then also with just one centered row instead of the two.

Igloochick, I had to show DH your response because HE wanted that last dot there and I vetoed it because of the whole uneven rule in decorating (fung shui?). If we had the last one there it would be an even number of dots and it looked strange to me on the mock-up (and the toaster over covers it about half way). But I told him he could go back and put it in if he wants to. Hmmm.....

Sheilaaus, the accent tiles are 10" apart on the angle (good estimate!).

jb1176, the granite is called Madura Gold but this lot just happened to have lots of color and depth. Another lot was really blah and mostly gold. The tile is from Tile Outlets of America and is 4" travertine. The dots were cut by DH from left over granite.

Now I have to get back to finding hardware that's affordable! I found one I loved that looked like bamboo stalks with leaves but they were $78 each!

This photo was sooooo helpful. I'm thinking about doing the same design and was struggling with how many rows to do. My cabinet to counter is 22". Could you tell me your distance? I may have more rows to do and if so I couldn't afford it. My deco tiles are 22 each and it is killin me. Thanks for your beautiful picture.

Looks great and he did a great job of making those 90Ë cuts in the travertine!

The up and down of the granite accent gives it a great energy. That's a very nice and playful touch.

I hate to be the lone voice of dissent. I love the idea of the granite dots, but something seems "off" with this pattern. It feels "jumpy" to me, and like there should be a larger space between the top and bottom rows. Or another lower row. Nice tile cutting, though!

i agree that a third row would make this look complete....but i am also more into symmetry than most!!!!!!

I am doing a similar back splash and in a quandary as to what color grout to use. What color are you using?
