Rustoleum Kitchen Cabinet Paint + Ikea Adel Cabinet

Hi-

Has anyone painted kitchen cabinets with the Rustoleum paint? I've seen the professional paint jobs all over the place but was wondering about this product.

Are you talking about Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations? I know someone who recently used it on some older golden oak cabs. They went very dark, nearly black, which I didn't care for in the first place. However, the cabs felt rough, gritty, like they hadn't been properly prepped or sanded. These are experienced DIYers, so it's not like they didn't know what they were doing. They said it took FIVE coats! Ugh. It wasn't a great look or feel.

I tried the black on an oak bathroom vanity, and it didn't adhere properly despite following directions with the deglossing first step. Kind of slid off and peeled. It's a lot easier to use gel stain.

Thanks for the nice comments. To barbcollins: I started January 26th 2011 and am still messing with this in March but I am a stay at home wife who runs people to dr. and picks kids up at school etc. etc. This is not hard. It is alittle time consuming but so money saving. There is little to no smell. This base coat took me 4 coats because it was dark and I wanted a nice finish with little grain showing thru. The mess was taking the stuff out of my cupboards and removing doors for new hinges and hardware. If you had help it wouldn't be too bad. My hubby works alot of hours and this was basically my project. I would definately recommend this.

Ponotte Beau! Cuisine ! Magnifique! merveilleux ! If I remember correctly you and your DH were worried about the Hospital look. You also had to search for Tile in Europe as it is harder to find than in the US. I had been so curious to know how you had been coming along. I am thrilled to see it is amazing. You have a beautiful french kitchen. I love the shelves beside the oven, the elegant backsplash, the hood and especially how you handled the window. Lovely sofit your DH must have built. No pristine hospital. Instead you have a classy, fresh crisp, functional kitchen in a wonderful French city. Now a toast! Félicitations. ~boxerpups I love what you did with the backsplash.

Thanks to all. To beekeeperswife: It was alittle time consuming but I worked hit & miss. Between picking up kids at school, family Dr. visits etc. I used 4 coats of paint instead of the suggested 2 because my cabinets were so heavily grained and I didn't want much of it to show through. I also did the inside of doors as nice as the outside. It took 2 $80 kits. ($160.00) for an entire new look. Purchased at L*we's. Happy to answer any other questions. There is no quote "Sanding" but you have to degloss. Not quite so hard. If I had a helper it would have went twice as quick. LOL Here is a link that might be useful: facebook link to my pics

Thanks for the feedback. I did go out to see London Grey and really liked it. I think more than the others, but I'm not sure $1600 more. I'd love to see it installed or a slab. I'm also debating what color backsplash and wall paint. It is a newly opened floor plan/great room. So I'm thinking the walls should be the same color. Maybe just all white or light gray? But, I'm also leaning towards white subway tile and I'm worried it might look to sterile. Any thoughts or pics?

Yes, that's te product I had in mind. It's not sounding like its going to work or look good. Boo.
