Weighted Pull Down Faucet vs. Magnetic?

I tried to post this last night, but must have messed it up somehow. Yikes! Be gentle, I'm new. :)

We're trying to decide on faucets for our new Galley Sink and are torn. We love the look of Kohler's Simplice (the 2 hole variety), but when we see the displays, it seems like the weight on the pull down clunks around when you use it, and when you put it back. We are less enamored of Delta's Leland faucets, but we really like the strong magnet to snap the pull down into place without the clunk! thunk! of the weight.

My question is this: is the clunking just a part of the design, or is that something you only get with a display install? If it is part of the design, is there a way to minimize it?

We have a Delta pull-down faucet (2 hole) in our new remodel. I'd have to look up the model, but it has a weight and a magnet. If we pull the faucet all the way out, we can sometimes hear the "clunk" of the weight. Usually it's a non-issue -- unless you put items under the sink that get in the way of the weight. We love the magnet.

FWIW the Kohler Simplice is the faucet that Kohler's head of development for their fixtures has in his own kitchen (pic on link).

Sometimes it's hard to judge counterweights on displays where the faucets aren't really installed. They are clank-y when loose.

I've not had one with a magnet but my KWC pulldown never clanked and retracted perfectly.

Both are good choices so it depends on what you think will work best for you.

I knew right off the bat that I needed a pull down and not a pull out. It just felt right in my hand (YOU ARE SO RIGHT DIVAMUM!;)). And I have arthritis pretty bad in my right wrist which might be something to consider if you're older...but I'm only 38. I'd go to a showroom and yank on a few (hee hee) to see which one you prefer. I certainly do appreciate the differences (ask my wife about Italian vs Chinese shoes!!). Still, I'm very interested in specific features and differences that would justify the price differential. For example, questions from a faucet newbie: Where are KWC faucets built? What about Franke, Blanco, Grohe? I had naively assumed they were European built, but are they all subbed out to China? Until I started researching on GW, I had always assumed these were the high end options, but obviously not. What specific construction features differ? Is it brass instead of plastic? The finish? Superior design? Do they perform better? For example, I note that the KWC Systema I mentioned lists the faucet outlet as the usual regulated 2.2 gpm, but that the pulldown prerinse provides 6 gpm. I'd love that for heavy duty cleaning. Is that exclusive to KWC?

Just to update with one more detail. Now it snaps back to the magnet just as it should. I don't have the install guide anymore, but I'll bet it called for some oil. It only makes sense since it's supposed to move and glide smoothly. Most things in the world that are supposed to do that need oil. Mineral oil does not go rancid, and is food safe, so it seemed like a good choice. I'm so happy with the faucet now. I was starting to hate it, but now it's perfect. Syllabub, try the mineral oil and see how it works. Just pull the faucet all the way out, coat your hands with a little mineral oil and rub it on the hose. I also went under the sink and rubbed a little on the portion of the hose that is visible down there when the faucet is retracted. That part probably wan't necessary, but I was trying to coat all the hose that would be gliding up and down.

Hello! We sell both the side spray and pull down spray faucets, we find that more customers are going towards the pull down spray faucets for ease of use and cleaning but that is personal preference. The quality on side spray faucets has come along way and as long as you purchase a good quality well recognized brand you will be fine. My only suggestion would be that you stop into a plumbing showroom and feel the difference between the two options as some people find the pull down spray to be more ergonomic.
