Raise cain - if it isn't what you want or ordered....

The paint store should mix it for you without charge since they made the mistake. I would just consider the first coat a primer.

My cabinets were Cloud White, and the way I had to force myself to remember it was: "alphabetical" C.W. not W.C.

Sorry not much help, but they messed up, they should not have any issue with correcting the problem, and also they store should have the right formula. It is a Ben Moore color. Unless you had it mixed at a non BM store. I have found that Lowe's cannot match BM's whites. Not sure why.

I got it at a BM store. It's definitely reading yellow with a pink cast with incandescent lighting. Not looking for pink at all.

In daylight it just looks yellow.

What if when I called to tell him to mix it, I mixed up and said White Cloud? Would I be wrong to expect that he'd know to warn me. I don't remember what I said, fwiw.

Does anyone have a can of Cloud White in their basement that could look at the formula for me?

My cabinets are Cloud White. My painters had it mixed by Kelly Moore, who do a great job of color matching. I just looked at the gallon they left me and the formula it has is:

B OY 1.0000
C OY 3.0000
RUM OY 0.5000

But if you got yours from BM, they just screwed up. I agree with you about the naming, stupid and asking for trouble.

I can't find what RUM stands for?

I'm guessing B is black and C is cyan but RUM?

Deedles, I have no idea. Usually B=blue and K=black. My Cloud White definitely has no blue, but it has yellow and that touch of black.

Wait: Just found this on another thread:
B=Black
C=Yellow-Oxide

I googled "RUM" and can't come up with anything other than stuff like "rum raisin," etc. If you're getting this from a BM store, they just need to give you the right color.

Reminds me of the time when the drug losec came out (a stomach acid pill) and there were lots of medication errors with lasix (a diuretic or water pill). Even a few deaths.

Cloud white---white cloud. Plain dumb.

The company changed it to Prilosec, at least in the US.

Rd lover ~ And now they have Plavix and Pradax .... Both blood thinners, both available in 75mg strengths. FWIW, we still have Losec and not Prilosec in Canada.

Anyway, back to the reason I responded to this topic.

Thanks Laurajane. That formula is a far cry from what I've got. Oh well, have to call the guy in the morning and see what unfolds. Don't see how he can say anything other than he'll make it right. I think Bm should eat the cost for having such a dumb name issue.

One other thing I noticed while painting... one can of the white cloud had a bunch of paint slugs in it... like the can was opened for awhile or didn't get mixed or something. I've never seen that with a brand new can. And, the Wythe Blue is a truly gorgeous color but honestly, I didn't think it flowed out as nicely as other BM paint I've worked with in the past. Seemed to 'orange peel' in areas. And it's new drywall so grease isn't an issue or anything like it. Can't say I'm overjoyed with this batch of BM as i have been in the past. Bummer.

And once the ceiling was painted I noticed a drywall seam that quite visible. So, the guy will redo it tomorrow which means I have to repaint the whole dang ceiling that I thought was finished.

Oh well, it's not my kitchen ceiling so I'd better stop talking about it on here. :)

Oh Bummer...I'm so sorry but I just almost did the same thing! I wanted Parachute Silk but was calling it Silk Parachute and they guy didn't know what I was talking about. It's a Behr color since I was at Home Depot thought I would try it out. This will be the third time for me painting my master bathroom...wah. Soooo, I'd recommend getting what you want on the first try..even if you have to take the paint back to the store. So sorry this happened to you. Definitely something that would happen to me, no doubt.

Short update. Guy was nice, apologized and agreed that the name thing is a problem. Replaced everything and knocked $$ off the other stuff that I had to buy.

The difference in tone of these two whites is incredible. Here is a pic of the cloud white going on over the white cloud (the yellowey wall color)

Woo. Good for you! I agree that Cloud White is much nicer. I've noticed that silly naming issue before. Really ridiculous, if you ask me.
