Rollouts in a 42' wide pantry cab: too big?
Comments (3)it be too wide for me. I'd do 3 doors at the top and 3 pullout drawers across it inside. it'd be too wide in the lower drawers also. I'd do 21" each. easier to get into and easier to divide up types of storage. it could depend on how much of a 'like' item you would be storing there on a regular basis. I'd rather have it broken up for storing like items. baking things (sugar, flour etc), canned goods, bottled products, breakfast items, drink products, etc....See MoreIs 36 inches too wide for a drawer stack?
Comments (38)Gemcap and Terri_pacnw, the system in the drawers in just called drawer peg organizer. It does have a notch to remove it. Mine is the Rev-a-Shelf brand. It looks nice and keeps everything organized but I found out after the fact that it really isn't necessary if you have good soft close drawers. There have been a number of threads on these organizers which you should be able to find with a google search and the terms gardenweb + dish drawer organizers or peg dividers. Most GWers agree that you can stack dishes in drawers without the pegs and that the pegs actually waste some drawer space. Some posters did say they used some type of liners like cushy cupboards in their pegless drawers. Nothing really moves when I close my soft close drawers. So while the pegs look nice, I say save the cost. I am sure you can find something else to spend that extra money on....See MoreSize of Longest Useful Drawer Stack? 42" too long?
Comments (32)Fishies - here are a couple more pictures This is the bank of 42 with 21s at the top - you could easily make the 42s look like a pair of 21s by the trim. 21 inch top drawers - these I like - knives on the left and silverware on the right - wouldn't want to open a big drawer for either of these items.... The 42s - Middle drawer has dinnerware - probably pushing the weight limit... I do have a few pegs to remind me where items belong vs keeping them from moving around... Bottom drawer - mostly containers - no more avalanches!!!! This one has dividers and still deciding best placement This is the bank of 45 with a 15/30 split. 42 was the max in the line, so needed to split it up... It works fine - still tweeking a few things - and right now, I have an extra slot!!! Wonder what trinket I can snag!!! - Just snagged the Kitchen Aid mixer on Craigslist and planning to make some lemon cookies after finishing this post. Here are the 15 and 30s middle and lower Middle 15 is a wrap drawer - was supposed to be in a different location but turns out the cooktop couldn't support a drawer, so needed to re-configure a few items. Bottom 15 drawer has my mixing bowls and hand mixer. The middle 20 drawer has a lot of my baking dishes and the bottom 30 drawer has my cake pans, parchment paper, and silicon silpat type things. Hope this is helpful :-) I can't wait to see your kitchen - I know it will be stunning and beautiful - mine will be functional but won't have your pizazz!...See MoreHow wide is 'too wide' for drawers
Comments (19)I had a sidewall failure. It is important to realize the weight of the drawer and insert count towards total weight (38 lbs) I asked and was told I could put 75 lbs in the drawer. I weighed my dishes and almost exactly 75 lbs (well I weighed a place setting and multiplied *12 for the villeroy and *6 for the pantry set) Here is the old thread http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1020404519236.html Believe it or not- still not resolved. We decided too risky to take out the cabinet. They are putting in a 2 level drawer. The company paid to add reinforcement screws and the new drawer will have heavy duty glides if I ever see it. I do have a 37 inch bank of drawers as well with pits and pans. I love the big drawers for function. I don't have to keep opening drawers to figure out what is in each drawer....See More- 14 years ago
