Granite yards in the Atlanta area with good variety

Can anyone recommend some well-stocked granite yards in the Atlanta area? We've gone to G&L, Daltile, Compass Stone. Just wondering if anyone has any others to recommend? I'm still hunting for the "perfect" stone. Thanks.

I don't know which area of ATL you're looking for, but MegaGranite in Coweta Co. is popular. Around here, they are the best in terms of pricing.

Stone Connection off of Peachtree Industrial in Norcross is a nice showroom as well as Granite Depot off of Jimmy Carter and McDonough. I also loved (where I got my granite)was UGM, Universal Granite and Marble close to Buford Highway and Beaver Ruin Rd intersection. There are also quite of few on Jimmy Carter between Buford Highway and Peachtree Industrial. Also one off of Oakbrook Parkway in Lilburn. I have been to quite a few (lol).

Just wanted to post a followup after last Saturday's fall plant trade. First, I want to thank Lucy from the bottom of my heart for opening her home to us and setting aside her day, even though she wasn't feeling as well as she might have liked. It was great of her to take on the trade at the last minute and do it so well. For those who couldn't come, you missed a really nice trade. Although there were only four of us there, we had a great time and all managed to take home new plants that we wanted (and as usual, some that we don't really need, but couldn't say "no" to). We also enjoyed a delicious lunch together sitting on Lucy's enclosed upstairs porch surrounded by trees on a beautiful fall day. I continue to believe, and the Gardenweb plant trades always prove the point, that gardeners are some of the nicest people on earth. Whether four gardeners show up, or forty, our get-togethers are always a treat. Our spring and fall trades are a unique opportunity to reconnect with old Gardenweb friends - and meet new ones. First, I wish I'd known about the local charity sales of heirlooms before I bought mine for 2007! Second, here's what I did this year to buy heirloom seed and plants. I'm a huge Internet user, so I searched and purchased via the 'net this year. If you want the world's largest selection with great plant photos and descriptions (including indicators for what does well in HOT HOT HOT climates like ours) go to www.heirloomtomatoplants.com. The owner is Laurel (a very, very nice lady) who grows over 150 types of heirloom tomatos (or you can custom order from her stock of 1,500 types of seed, and she'll grow'em for you!). Her website's pictures and descriptions are fantastic, and she indicates what does well in heat, cold, containers, etc. Although the plants are reasonably priced (to me, anyway), the downside is shipping from the Los Angeles area. For seed, try a southern company such as Southern Exposure Seed Exchange (www.southernexposure.com) which carries lots of organic heirloom tomato (and other veggie) seeds suited for the South (they're located in VA). For a wider selection (and I mean hundreds if not thousands of heirloom choices), try www.tomatofest.com. Personally, I thought their prices were high but the selection fantastic - and great photos, too. I purchased many of my seeds from two Oregon sellers - Victory Seed Company (www.victoryseeds.com) and Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds (www.rareseeds.com). I have started the following seeds: Brandywine - Red, Pink and Yellow cherokee chocolate cherokee purple earliana Tiger Tom Copia amish paste Indian Stripe Tess's Land Race (Baker Creek - small currant tomato) Pink Accordion Brandywine Red Black Cherry Hillbilly Orange Heirloom (from Victory Seed) eva purple ball (plant from Laurel's) Purple Haze (plant from Laurel's) Goose Creek (from South Carolina low country, plant from Laurel's) Dagma's Yellow Perfection (plant from Laurel's) Black zebra (plant from Laurel's) Paul Robeson (plant from Laurel's) This is my first time growing these heirlooms, so don't take this list as gospel for growth in the South's climate. Here's my 2c: plants that are zone 7 also have to be zone 8 to really thrive here. Plants like astilbe or sweet cherry that love zones 4-7 (but not 8) and really don't mind extreme cold tend not to thrive here even though it's technically zone 7b. Similarly, you'll see a lot of plants that are zone 8+ doing well here, but odds are that eventually there'll be a really cold winter again. Only a couple decades back the mercury dipped down to negative 4! Also, desert plants usually find it too humid here; unless you plant in well-drained soil they'll rot in our wet springs. The same humidity is great for bugs, mildew and plant diseases of all sort so it's best to plant disease-resistant and mildew-resistant varieties of anything you can. But be prepared to seriously water anything that's not drought-tolerant, because every year I've been here there's been at least a month without significant rain and sometimes more than that. The last item to consider is that most of our so-called soil is heavy red clay, so almost every planting will benefit from heavily amending the soil. So since you (and your friend, presumably) are zone 8 and we're sort of zone 8, I think any of the plants you're used to will do just fine here as long as they're drought-tolerant, humidity-tolerant, heat-tolerant, cold-tolerant and disease-resistant :)

you say that Opalika is the best type of Roma tom? **** It's Opalka and no it isn't a roma type; it's a long red type that's excellent for sauces and also fresh eating; very few seeds. Kind of like roma types in that they're small and red and very meaty that I think are excellent are: Heidi Martino's Roma Wuhib I know Heidi is one of Darrel's faves, he of selected plants mentioned above. he sells only plants, not seeds. There are many threads here at GW that mention good seed sources, just use the Search feature at the bottom of this page. If you don't find it I'll suggest a few places. YOu might wish to go to Sandhillpreservation.com and look in the tomato section for the heading Paste Tomatoes and take a look if you want to see LOTS of varieties. Speaking for myself now, if you're going to grow stuff for sauce, why not consider using just great tasting meaty larger varieties since as a group, the paste tomatoes aren't all that flavorful IMO. I used 'A Polished Finish' out of Loganville. They came all the way up to the mountains(Jasper) to do our work.
Great selection, incredible pricing and they did exactly what they promised and when. Owed by a very nice young couple. link below

We found ours at A&S Marble and Granite Imports in south Buckhead (75 and Howell Mill) 404-603-8182.

We also checked out Georgian Stone, Compass Stone, UGM, AGM Imports, Marmi Natural Stone, MSI, and G&L.

Since you have been looking & if you have now been to UGM (great guy, delayed going to lunch to show me around & he knew there was a small chance I could be his customer) you probably have heard the question, "Whose your fabricator?" UGM guy told me he could not recommend a fabricator, but he worked with hundreds around the SE. Ultimately, I got a list from neighbors, started calling with some thoughts of what I wanted & they got me into more distributors (like UGM & Stone Connections).

I'll be glad to share my list if you want, but I also found that if you have a smallish job (possibly not your kitchen) & want to look at a cool bone yard, Inman Park Marble & Granite has great stuff. They were my fabricator for a Master Bath remodel (Emperador Dark Marble). Their bone yard has some beautiful exotics in small & medium amounts & will give you reduced prices on these pieces. I'll definitely pursue once I redo the other baths, but right now am working on the kitchen . . . Good luck.

UGM may be closing so its possible to get a good deal there. Many of their staff has been let go. Hopefully things will get better and they'll be able to hang on. They were great to work with. Probably the same manager, Tom, maks spoke about was there for me too. He let us come over when they were closed, he put all the lights back on in the warehouse and stayed an extra hour with us. They have great customer service. Its a shame they can't hold on in this economy.
I also have a fantastic fabricator/installer if you need one in the Atlanta area that will also help you find your granite.

maks2000 - Thanks for the recommendation for the yard with small pieces. We do have a very small island (45" total) and have been looking for a specialty piece.
