I'm in the same boat. I actually think I am going to hold off on having a BS for as long as possible, since I haven't been able to decide what I want.

You should do a search under white cabinets in the FKB. I'll try to link a photo here of my favorite kitchen. Bikey used carrara marble and it is just beautiful! I even thought about trying to find it in a diamond (not sure if that's what it's called) pattern.... but subway is sooooo nice.

I finished the majority of my kitchen remodel last November. I just did the backsplash lat week and it is now July. I just couldn't decide for months. I loved the subway tile but it just didnÂt seem right for me. I ended up doing bead board painted white like the cabs. I love it so far. It is very simple but it works for me. I have soapstone, marble and white cabinets. Also I like knowing I can change the color of the backsplash if I re-do the colors in my house...which I do every few years. If I did tile I knew I would be stuck with it.

fightingoverfinishes - Can you post a photo of your finished backsplash? I'm a white cab/soapstone person who is holding out for a backsplash that will finish off my kitchen, yet not detract from the gorgeous stone countertops. I like the idea of beadboard for all the reasons you stated. Thanks -

I thought about glass mosaics or penny tile --small circles that are updated version of the hex tiles of long ago. Marble would be a possibility. The beadboard sounds great too.

That is gorgeous! That reminded me of one that used mini brick marble backsplash (JENN4268).

Check out some of this unique stuff. There are lots of "whites" in several of the different collections. I imagine that this stuff is off the scale expensive but... hey, cost me nothing to bookmark it!

We remodeled about 1.5 years ago. Our kitchen has white cabinetry, black countertops (virginia mist granite) and while our back splash is subway tile, it is a taupe-ish color with a white/taupe checker board pattern behind the range. We chose this color to warm up the white/black color scheme.

I am planning to use harlequin/rhomboid tile with my cream shaker cabinetry and soapstone countertops (Julia).

Project was stalled due to contractor issues, but I have just hired a new contractor and soapstone is scheduled for install on July 16 ! Backsplash to follow shortly thereafter.

I tended towards a non-horizontal tile for the backsplash because my house is old, the floors and ceiling slope in opposite directions, and I didn't want to accentuate this. Plus I just really like the harlequin shape. Here was my inspiration photo ...

One of my inspiration kitchens (can't remember the name of the poster) has soapstone and green crackle subways. They're beautiful and set off the white cabinets and black countertops really well.

No pics as it is in process, but our tile will be a delft (style) tile.

Pale green subway tiles look awesome. That's a fabulous idea.

We just started remodeling our kitchen and will use white cabinets and soapstone. These are all great ideas for the backsplash. We're leaning towards a grey glass subway tile or marble. What can we use for the floor? We are thinking of a grey porcelain tile (Dal Tile Terra Antica Celeste Grigio).

blondelle-just saw your july 4th post - thanks for the link. The mosaic really adds a lot to the kitchen-I haven't seen this with soapstone and it looks amazing!

Our neighbors used a lime-green subway tile with soapstone and white cabs. looks really cool, and I never would have thought of doing it. We are going with a crackle-finish white subway tile with gray grout, though we're using butcher block counter tops. I looked at the green crackle finish, and it also looks great. Would go better with soapstone or darker counter top.

I too, am starting a remodel..and planning on soapstone and white cabinets! I just love the look, but still what to do with the back splash. Has any on seen the stainless steel tiles? I love all the suggestions above, but since my kitchen will open up into my family room I have to go pretty neutral.

We will have white cabinets and absolute black honed granite. However, I think our solution will work for soapstone.

My husband did not want a white backsplash - he thought it would look too sterile. When we met with our decorator on thursday, we came up with a very, very light green subway tile. We are going to mount it in a heringbone pattern (if I spelled that right!). We will pull in some more color (darker green & whitish cream tile) over the stove. It will be very subtle, but at least something different.
