I have almost what you describe, with a couple differences... So I saw the Houzz pics and painted my exterior doors black. I have both french with multi-lite and then regular panel exterior doors. They look AMAZING in black. ...or looked amazing. Gawd does the black get dirty FAST. And is crazy difficult to keep clean unless you clean it regularly. I originally opted for oil-rubbed bronze, which does look nice with the black (the bronzing shows up), but in the end preferred the brushed after a couple of months. Ended up swapping all over to brushed save for the front door which is mahogany and still bronze. Interior door handles are all brushed. It looked fine when they didn't match the bronze of the exterior doors, but I like them more matching now to be honest. Interior doors, after the joys of those black exterior doors, are all now a dark grey. WAY easier to keep the appearance of being clean, but still a very sexy look. I mixed multi-lite french with 3-panel mission doors and they look great. Even one single lite frosted inside the house that matches beautifully. But honestly, black in a house is the devil. I did black painted stairs too and it's AWFUL. Love Love Love the look (and it's to die for), but the mess. Ugh. Scared about the day we have kids and I have to clean all that dark panelling with them running around...

Thanks for your suggestions hollysprings! I don't like the idea of walnut knobs on the white cabinets... in my head it looks country and that's not my style at all. I was planning to use polished nickel bin pulls on the drawers and polished nickel oval knobs on the cabinet doors. Also, I forgot to mention that the perimeter counter would be black granite and the island would be carrera marble (or something similar). Your idea of a dark wood top for the hutch is interesting. I'll definitely consider that! But I'm still worried about the two different style doors being so close in proximity and so different from each other... I'd love to do a color island, but KRD doesn't have any color options I like and custom paint is outside the budget for the time being. :(

I agree with lascatx. I have raised panel overlay on my perimeter, which is white, and the same raised panel overlay on my island, which is espresso. A separate section of my perimeter, which comprises the stove alcove and flanking cabinetry, is the same white as the other white cabs, but is full-flush with a bead, and raised panel doors. It all ties in beautifully, IMHO, because the sections all relate to each other. The Danby marble counters are the same, in an effort to pull it all together. Although I have that same slab marble behind the range, the b-splash behind the cabs flanking the range is the same tile as the rest of the b-splash behind the white perimeter cabs. Also pulling it together are glass-fronted double-stacked uppers in both perimeter sections, and the same drawer pulls and cabinet knobs throughout. So, like Lascatx says, "keep it related" and it can be gorgeous.

Nancy... so right! I hate it when they do that and DH is also be blame! First he says... do what you want. then when final sign off is here... ummm, "you think that will look good?" Grrrr! I'm usually a Pacifist... but now I'm close to "passing a fist" right though his face! Just a little joke I saw on Facebook. LOL. Trying not to let this project get to me. drewem, your kitchen sounds like it will be a winner. If I had an island, I'd probably do something similar.
