Trying again-Hope there are pics this time

I have been diagnosed with bsd avoidance! Yep, back splash decision avoidance. Funny thing is I am leaning towards simple things..then I think too simple, right color, too boring. I know what I dont like..stone, business..i love the mosaics but for me it is too busy for a whole kiitchen. Looks great on websites and magazines but not for my kitchen. I am about to order, tomorrow hopefully. As you can see I have uba tuba granite, cherry cabinets. I chose Jeffrey Court Chpt 8 Jasper gloss. Originally I was looking at crackle but decided that wasnt me. This tile has the typical 3X6 subway and also a 4X8 but the one I am leaning toward is a 2X12. It would be quite comtemporary which is me. I saw it layed one on top of the other..looked great but too modern. I would probably do it brick style. I am not doing anything special over cooktop because down the road I want to find some type of art (not a picture) to hang there.

Also there is issues removing the granite backsplash, maybe. It may leave gaps in certain corners. I want it gone but if it is too much of a hassle it can stay.

By the way Jasper is a cream color with pale gold undertones, What do the pros think of the 2X12 size?? Just a bit of uniqueness I want but not 100% sure

I know you want your kitchen done, but don't order unless YOU are sure. SO what if it doesn't get ordered this week or next.
You should take those pictures to every tile store in town with dimensions of the space needing to be tiled. I did this and I got some really good ideas( and some wacky ones!).
As for your question regarding 2 x 12 tile, it seems too contemporary and trendy for you kitchen. I just can't picture it, but I tend to like more traditional things so I admit I am of no help to the people who love contemporary.
Don't order any tile unless you absolutely love it and are really excited about it or you will probably regret not taking your time.

Essie4 - Beautiful wood kitchen, the hood is a great feature - strong but understated. I too like to twist the traditional when I can. I agree that the stacked tile might be too contemporary for your kitchen. I think the larger tile could be interesting - keep it mind it would add a more horizontal stretch to the kitchen. I would suggest cutting out pieces of paper the size you are looking at or just drawing it on a large piece of paper or board and pasting it up - I think it is the best way to get an idea of you would be happy with the look.

Another way to be more contemporary with rectangles is going smaller with mini brick or different dimensions. I have found myself attracted to squares in running bond/staggered pattern, or more squat rectangles. I look forward to seeing what you choose.

Hopefully for you guys where posting pictures is not something you understand, this explanation may help a little. HTML is something called a "tag language", recognized by browsers - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc. Commands in this "tag language start and end with brackets: Where SBR (start bracket) equals the single character symbol: And EBR (end bracket) equals the single character symbol: > I'm going to use SBR and EBR because if I put in the real brackets the browser will get confused. The most important part of the command to allow you to post photos in a forum like this is: SBRimg src="http://some url address"EBR If the URL is the real URL of your photo, putting the SBRimg src = in front of it, then the EBR at the end tells the browser that what is between the tag is a photo, and it resides at that "http" url address. Simple as that. Most online photo holders have a button you can press to get the "html" code for your photo. I use flickr, and the button is "share". For the most part you should just be able to cut and paste the entire thing right into your text here, and it'll display the photo. Most often there are additional tags like:SBRa href = "xxx"EBR, which means - allow clicking on the link. Or height = "XXX", width = "YYY" which sizes your photo in "pixels" on the screen. But mostly, finding the place to get the "html" code for your photo and just putting it in here with your text, exactly as it is shown to you, should work. Good luck!

Thanks Peachiekean! Iris Gal, I think you're right, I think that iris is not Best Bet after all, the standards are supposed to be white, but they do look yellowish. The beards were supposed to be bright tangerine, but it doesn't quite look like the catalog photo and I'm not remembering its name. Best Bet is somewhere in the garden, but did not bloom this year I guess. Edith Wolford is next to Berries and Cream and its standards are really yellow. I got the Drama Queen Poppy from Annie's Annuals catalog. They're great! Thanks again!

John, the area around the perimeter of the land is probably six feet higher than the middle. That's where I put the new plant. Like I mentioned earlier...I was in the process of purchasing several plants to ship back. Just didn't follow thru. Wasn't anything really new that I "needed" or had to have. Durian, longan, and lychee cannot be exported. Ch3rri...santol was okay but certainly nothing to get exicted about. There is all that flesh but there seems to only be a small portion that has any decent flavor. The flesh clings to the seed like no other I've ever experienced. You would probably either wear your teeth down or just pass out thru exhaustion trying to clean off the seed. That nursery gave us a bagful to take with us. The bite you saw me holding in the pic was the ONLY piece of santol I took in the whole trip. Just wasn't worth it when we had so many other delicious fruit to choose from. Beautiful tree though.

So glad my instructions worked. As I said in my email, I don't know if I can help you much. I'm not great with offering ideas, as some people are. But I do like to "vote" when a poster shows us things they are considering. So if you come back and post some examples of possible backsplashes, I would love to chime in then! If all glass mosaics are too busy for you, what if you did the larger subway tile (4x8) and had a row of glass mosaics as accent? I.e. do 2 or 3 rows of the subway tiles, then row of glass mosaics (most I have seen are 3 squares thick) then more subway above it. Right now I cannot seem to find a picture to explain it but I have seen it in person and it looks really nice. I am considering that for my own backsplash, b/c like you, I think a whole backsplash glass mosaics is too much for my kitchen (plus I shudder to think of all that grout).

I would also leave the granite backsplash. Normally I don't like the 4 inch countertop backsplashes but I think it looks really nice from your photos.

I have that same chronic condition, so I understand. I think if there were a limited amount of choices and design options it would be much easier, but because there are a bizillion choices and option for design it makes deciding next to impossible.

I don't have anything constructive to add here other than to say...WELCOME TO THE CLUB!!
