somethings wrong with my granite countertops

We're building a new home and everything has been going great until today. The kitchen granite was installed today and I couldn't be more disappointed. I have Venetian Gold in my current home and love it so much I knew that it was the perfect choice for my new kitchen. The Venetian Gold granite that was delivered today is a dark caramel color on the surface. It doesn't look like any Venetian Gold I've ever seen and it is much darker than the one I viewed with the fabricator.

At first I thought the lighting in the room dramatically distorted the color but then I noticed that the counter edge appears to be a different color. The edge is the color one would expect in a Venetian Gold slab. Is it possible that the counter surface could have been exposed to some thing or some process that would turn it darker than normal or could my "two toned" counter tops be the result of normal color variation?

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks
