Anyone have 2 different colors of granite?

We have picked out our cabinets, but not the counter tops yet. The perimeter of the kitchen the cabinets are white and the island/bar is a brown mocha color. We are still pinching our pennies so are wondering if 2 different colors of stone would look OK. I know some people do it, but I'd like to see what some of you have if you don't mind posting photo's or referring me to the completed kitchen blog to look at your photo's. Thanks for your help.

We did, although it's really hard to tell from any of the photos I have. We have kind of a reddish-brown stain on our main cabinets, and the island is dark brown. I knew I was getting dark green granite on the main cabs and wanted something different for the island. I originally thought a light color would be nice, but after thinking about it, I decided I didn't want something *that* drastically different. These are the two granite colors I chose. They're different, but from a distance kind of look similar (due to the mottled pattern), which works for me.

My photos also do not show clearly all in one photo the marble Rosa Verona island and the granite on the perimeter Rosewood aka Amber Fantasy. I did this because the island marble is a deep color, all one shade. The granite is patterned with large flecks of the same color picked up.

The marble slab I fell in love with was polished and it was before I knew marble works better in a kitchen honed. So I have etching but it does not show much to anyone but me.

I am having 2 edges as well...the island will have what my fabricator called triple pencil (waterfall by some). The outer counters will have polished straight edge with all corners slightly rounded. I am not being charged for the island edge. When he told me the price I told him no way. He threw it in. I want it, but think a better name for the island edge might be "dirt and grime catcher" I think it will make a dramatic statement though.

our cabinets have a crown molding on them. our great room has a different crown molding (simpler, more contemporary). the great room walls flow directly to the kitchen and i could not figure out a good end point for the crown molding from the great room. so it ends near the cabinets but a small space was left to distinguish the cabinet space of the kitchen from the rest of the kitchen. is this going to look totally weird?

Not to worry! My perimeter and island slab a little different too. When they were first installed, they were back to back (or brother and sister as someone on here said). There was a staining issue on the island slab with the epoxy they used and I ended up demanding that they change the slab and cut a new island piece for me. They did, so now my slabs are cousins not brothers and sisters. The spots and pattern are similar but the one slab is slightly lighter than the rest. I am happy and no one will ever know. Remember- on the perimeter you only see 24" deep granite sections. Even if they were identical, it would be hard to tell because the larger island just looks so different because of the vast pattern. HTH.

We have the same cabinetry throughout, but did 2 choose different stones. Yellow river on the island, Aracruz black on the perimeter.

We have off-white perimeter cabs with dark brown zodiaq. Our island is walnut and it has creme marfil marble top. Neither is granite, but you get the idea of two tone.

Thanks everyone, your kitchens are beautiful and your choices in colors helps me a great deal. I should not have specified "granite." I guess I was thinking granite because I know how popular it is. I would love to have Cambria or some other quartz, but it all depends on the cost factor when it comes down to it. The reason I'm considering the two different colors is that in the off chance I find some "sample" or "discontinued" pieces and they won't have enough for both areas, I can feel comfortable in chosing 2 different colors, even types of counter.

I had not even considered black, but if I go with two different stones/materials and find a black at a good price, maybe it's something I can learn to get use to.
