Anyone have two different granite edges in kitchen?

My fabricator suggested doing two edges in the kitchen. The main walls and large island will be a demi bull nose. The center island will have a ogee edge at her suggestion but she is also NOT charging for this. What do you think of having two edges? The granite will be the same through out - Cella Dorada.

I think this looks great. My husband wanted to do this and I nixed the idea because I thought the ogee would look to formal. Big mistake! I love my granite, but I still look longingly at it very time I see it wishing I had done the two edges with the ogee on the island.

I wouldn't worry about the pattern of the UbaTuba at all, it's a pretty dark stone and will work with amost anything you put in there. We have Verde Peacock which is in the same family as the Uba Tuba, I don't have an island, but if I did, I would DEFINATELy put a different color on it because I think it would add interest to the room. We're doing our bathroom right now and found a slab called Golden Shore, I'm sure the store made the name up, but it closely resembles Golden Beach, and like the Bordeaux, it has tiny purplie maroon dots in it too, lovely If you're having a hard time visualizing it, ask for a sample and bring it home to test.

I have full bullnose. I wanted an eased edge to go with our more contemporary choices, but my DH was adamant about the full bullnose. That was one of the few things he cared about (that and the granite!) because he didn't want sharp corners, chipping and he just liked the look. The edge around the sink is eased, and I have not chipped the granite, but I have chipped many glasses and dishes! I have had it for going on two years now, and I really like it. It does take some getting used to when sweeping off crumbs and stuff, since they don't fall off till after the curve. I haven't noticed a drip issue more than any other counter. I really do like the softness of the look, to "counter" the hardness of the stone and other features I have. I also have it on my island, which has an overhang for stools and haven't noticed any issues there.

Thank you all! Entering week 4 of no kitchen and I am going a little batty. It sounds like I should perhaps do the Ogee on the island and eased on the perimeter, rather than flipped which was my original idea. The island has furniture legs, beadboard, etc. Ugh now I am going to second guess myself bc I am not an Ogee fan and the hubby is!

Aliris has an ogee edge in her new kitchen. She thought she would like it, but instead has found the opposite. She has listed her reasons on other threads. You might search around for her comments. I'm much more of a simple and clean lines person so wouldn't do ogee, but it can certainly work with your kitchen.

We haven't started yet, but were just discussing this yesterday for our kitchen. We will have main counters/walls, an island, and also a buffet separating kitchen from family room, all with the same granite. DH really wanted a "fancier" edge, but I wasn't sure I liked the idea and was also worried about extra expense. Our designer suggested doing the island with a different edge - so counters and buffet will have a more plain edge (bull nose or eased, maybe, don't know yet), and the island will have a fancier one - not sure what that'll be either.

I think it will look nice for us, and I'm sure yours as well. Especially with the granite being the same, I think it'll be a nice touch to have the slightly different edging.

We decided to go with the ogee edge everywhere when we had our counters put in 6 years ago, and I have not regretted that decision. The granite people said they had never had a request for that before, but according to them, have done several since. It does add to the cost.

I do, but they are similar enough that no one is likely to notice. My granite is eased just a bit while the marble has a softer rolled edge since it would be more prone to chipping. The stones dictated simpler edges.

We are planning to do two - one on the main section, different one on the island. Problem is we are undecided what two (sticking with standard edge choices).

Right now leaning towards Eased and Polished on the main counters. Then the Island could be one of the following:

Half - Bullnose, Demi-Bullnose, Full-Bullnose, 1/4" bevel or 3/8" round

Don't want to hijack the thread - but any suggestion on what on the island would look good

We did just what you are thinking about doing. We did a demi-bullnose for the main counters and an ogee edge on the island. I also have the same granite throughout. I liked the idea of having a different edge on the island--just to make it look a little different and fancier.

I am having 2 edges as well...the island will have what my fabricator called triple pencil (waterfall by some). The outer counters will have polished straight edge with all corners slightly rounded. I am not being charged for the island edge. When he told me the price I told him no way. He threw it in. I want it, but think a better name for the island edge might be "dirt and grime catcher" I think it will make a dramatic statement though.

Triple pencil or waterfall? I've not seen this edge. Any picture's or links? I'm planning on two different thickness edges. The island will have a thicker edge (approx. 2 1/4") and the counters 1 1/2" edge. Hadn't thought of two different style edges. Nice idea.

I have half bullnose on my perimeter cabinets and ogee on the island.

I saw those two edges used in the same way (ogee on the island) in a show house tour. I thought it looked great. It just defined the island a little more.
