Fisher and Paykel dishwasher drawers turns itself on

hi,

the Fisher and Paykel dishwasher drawers turn themselves on for 30 seconds each time you open the door. The manual says it is suppose to do this. WHY? What for? Does anybody know how to turn this option off?

It was probably programmed in on the assumption that you'd load it and start it. Does it trigger if you don't have the drawer shut tight? Maybe a tiny gap would avoid that? I would contact the manufacturer about being able to disable the feature.

thanks, it turns itself on for 30 second when we open the door, I guess it is waiting for us to choose the washing mode, but it is annoying... It has a steep learning curve... I will call. thanks!

Same here. Had the F&P DDs in my last house. I lived there nearly 4 years, and they'd been installed several years before I bought the house. Never a problem with those machines....so at least 6-7 years old when I sold the house. I liked them so much I installed them in this house when I remodeled the kitchen. That was nearly 5 years ago. Not one single problem, ever. I'd buy this brand and the DDs again in a heart beat.

Large water leak could be a cracked drain hose. The drain hoses flex every time the drawers are open/closed so it's not unusual a crack happens after years of use. Each drawer has a separate controller board, unusual they'd go bad simultaneously. Both drawers dead may be a bad mains power board, which is located under a cover on the bottom panel of the cabinet. Remove the lower drawer to access it. The mains board also has a flood sensor that reacts to water in the bottom panel, triggering the pumps on both drawers to turn on in drain mode. Roaches love dishwashers ... source of humidity, warmth, and food.

I hadn't seen this one before. It seems quite different from the Smeg one, and much more usable. F&P are one of the, if not the, first makers of dishwasher drawers. There are some peculiarities, but most people who have the 24" ones are satisfied. This larger one looks easier to figure out how to load. The blurbs say that it can take a large dinner plate, unlike some. All the tines fold down and the racks are moveable. Your best bet is to take some of your more difficult pieces to a showroom and see how they fit, but it looks good to me.

The air gap, of course, takes the place of routing the hoses on a high loop. The Dual Air Gap Kit may solve your backflow problem if the way the two hoses are connected to the air gap is the source of the issue. I don't know how a typical air gap is constructed internally, no experience since they're not required here. The Dual may have a baffle between the two hose connections to keep the flow separate. Yours presumably having one incoming connection, your installer may have used the included Y-adapter to connect the two hoses, and it doesn't itself provide sufficient separation of the flow. Just speculating from afar without access to directly view the situation.

The instructions are in the manual on how to disable this feature. I just read it the other day when I was looking for something else. If you need it I can scan the appropriate section and post it for you.

thank you, we have the manual, we read it twice but did not find this ... Can you point me to the page where it explains how to disable the feature?

Are you happy with your dishdrawers? It is so different from the basic dishwasher we used to have that seems complicated to us, but then it was just installed yesterday...

kitchendreaming, the manual I have says "User Guide DD24 models". Is that the same as yours?

On page 23 - Auto Power Setting - It explains the feature and goes on to say that it can be turned off.

On page 24 - Option Adjustments - It's a chart that looks kind of complicated but read through it and follow the steps. Auto power option is the third column on the chart.

If you don't have the same manual let me know and I will scan it.

I have had the dish drawers for a year now and I love them. It just takes a bit of getting used to the differences from a traditional dishwasher. You will get to know how your dishes fit and don't be afraid to put larger items stacked on top of your other dishes. There are some great posts and photos over on the appliance board.

Sorry, just looked closer and the instruction are actually on page 25 for the model with the lcd - which I have.

It's in the manual somewhere. I don't know why it's the default setting. It's like they think we're the kinds of people who put all the dishes in at once!

I am not at home right now to check the model of the DW...

Fori, funny comment! I read in the manual yesterday there is a mode for "family members who take a few clean plates but don't unload the whole DW"... maybe that is actually what I was looking for...

Auto Power Option (AP):-

(Powers up automatically when the drawer is opened.)

Press and hold ECO, then press KEYLOCK for 5 seconds.

rA will be displayed.

Press START/PAUSE twice.

AP will be displayed (integrated: Orange LED above start/pause button showing).

Press KEYLOCK.

Turns auto power on and off. Scrubbing brush or secondary control panel LEDs showing = AP on. Scrubbing brush or

secondary control panel LEDs not showing = AP off.

Press POWER.

To exit and save selected setting.
