36' Fisher Paykel DD36SDFTX1 Dishwasher Drawer

I have a very small kitchen. I have very bad arthritis and many times can't bend. But, I don't have the room in my remodel for a dish drawer on each side of the sink. One 24" drawer isn't going to do it. I don't want a stack - I'd still have to bend.

So, 2 questions:

1) Has anyone purchased this product?

2) Do you think I can get away with 1 - 36" drawer?

I hadn't seen this one before. It seems quite different from the Smeg one, and much more usable. F&P are one of the, if not the, first makers of dishwasher drawers. There are some peculiarities, but most people who have the 24" ones are satisfied. This larger one looks easier to figure out how to load. The blurbs say that it can take a large dinner plate, unlike some. All the tines fold down and the racks are moveable.

Your best bet is to take some of your more difficult pieces to a showroom and see how they fit, but it looks good to me.

Our local appliance dealer has one on display, but has not sold one yet. What would you do with the space under the 36"? How big is your family? we have the 24" dual drawer and just use the top drawer unless we have company. We are basiclly empty nesters so we only run it every couple of days any way.

Same here. Had the F&P DDs in my last house. I lived there nearly 4 years, and they'd been installed several years before I bought the house. Never a problem with those machines....so at least 6-7 years old when I sold the house. I liked them so much I installed them in this house when I remodeled the kitchen. That was nearly 5 years ago. Not one single problem, ever. I'd buy this brand and the DDs again in a heart beat.

kitchendreaming, the manual I have says "User Guide DD24 models". Is that the same as yours? On page 23 - Auto Power Setting - It explains the feature and goes on to say that it can be turned off. On page 24 - Option Adjustments - It's a chart that looks kind of complicated but read through it and follow the steps. Auto power option is the third column on the chart. If you don't have the same manual let me know and I will scan it. I have had the dish drawers for a year now and I love them. It just takes a bit of getting used to the differences from a traditional dishwasher. You will get to know how your dishes fit and don't be afraid to put larger items stacked on top of your other dishes. There are some great posts and photos over on the appliance board.

The air gap, of course, takes the place of routing the hoses on a high loop. The Dual Air Gap Kit may solve your backflow problem if the way the two hoses are connected to the air gap is the source of the issue. I don't know how a typical air gap is constructed internally, no experience since they're not required here. The Dual may have a baffle between the two hose connections to keep the flow separate. Yours presumably having one incoming connection, your installer may have used the included Y-adapter to connect the two hoses, and it doesn't itself provide sufficient separation of the flow. Just speculating from afar without access to directly view the situation.

Erica - hey there! We decided not to get one in the end; too much money for what it would do for us. I would totally consider installing a whole bank of them under the countertops if I was loaded, though, as the concept is excellent. I just wish there was some more competition from affordable domestic brands to keep the pricing more reasonable. I went back through the other replies and only one person responded who installed one - all the others were speculative, not real life experiences (typical Houzz). You could try tagging cheztaki who was the only respondent who actually has one, maybe? I'd say if it looks like a great option for you, get it, but make sure it's not dead stock with an old warranty or anything, just in case. And if you do get it, let us know how it works out, and in the meantime I'll keep buying lottery tickets :)

A storage drawer can be under any DishDrawer, long as there's a solid panel between to support the unit above. A 36" wide drawer is useful for storing pots/pans and such.

I just called Standards of Excellence. They have one installed. Time to go and play. We're empty nesters too. But, my back and knees are dictating purchases for our new kitchen.

Once you've got this up and running, I'm sure we'd all be really interested to know how you like it! I really wanted the 24" model because we are also empty nesters, but I do cook large amounts quite often (potlucks are a big thing with friends/family) and found my larger stuff just did not fit well in either the F&P or the European DWs.

I wish they had, because I'm so not pleased with the consistently wonky soap dispenser on the KA KUDS30IVSS we did buy.
