Ok, if I have to ask my DH or contractor to measure my armspan in relation to the kitchen project, they are really going to lose it, they already think I am crazy enough! I get it though, and its a totally practical concern. (Little Fishies, do you have irregularly long arms?!) My contractor did say he thinks they can frame it in to get it a bit less deep, the carpenter will know more. Justmake it, your window is beautiful. Your cabinets look great too. Are you going to have casing around the bump out? Are you putting uppers next to the bump out? I'm trying to decide how much room I need to leave next to where the bump out starts before I start a cabinet. I'm going to check that out on other posts showing these windows. I do love to bake and even though it is only the 2 of us I get carried away and then freeze for later :) My soapstone has one tiny chip in it from dropping a glass out of the cabinet. I forget it is there except when I wipe the counter. I have never oiled my stone. It has darkened naturally over time from all the use. I can see the difference as there is a piece of the same stone next to the ovens for a landing zone and it has remained very light. The stone in my sunroom has also remained light w/o oil. My soapstone is Green Mountain and looks exactly like the example on their website. Not many veins . It has proven to be very durable. I love it for kneading bread and rolling out dough as well as pasta etc. I think it is a perfect countertop choice but there are lots of threads here with differing opinions. Comments (12)I agree that no overhang is worse than having too much! We had that problem in a prior kitchen and the doorfronts were damaged by dripping water at the sink. I think we will be ok with the overhangs as they are but just checking. Part of me is just concerned about the quality of the fabrication in general. The location of the sinks ( setback) which I know can be a back problem, plus I'm hoping g it will not be a problem when the plumber comes Monday to hook up the disposal and plumbing. The sink has a rear drain, and I'm just hoping the disposal fits and the back of the cabinet isn't too close! Also, I opted for a positive reveal, which they recommended against. The silicone between the sink and counter does not fully fill the space with a smooth seal. There are spots where "stuff" could get wedged into the crevice. I'm hoping g DH can add more silicone and seal it properly the way it is in my other house ( this one is a vacation home). Comments (29)I love your countertops with the clean lines and square corners i just had quartz countertops installed with curved corners after i had specifically ordered squared. Sadly, they tell me i have to pay and will not replace it. I even hired their designer and we went over all the details including straight clean cut sides and square corners. Not once did they ask me what radius I wanted. She only showed me the buffet in their showroom with squared corners. She then did up drawings with square corners which I signed and they still installed rounded corners. i want to have it replaced, as it isnt what i ordered but now they want to take action if i dont pay the balance owing :( I feel I need to stand my ground as this is a huge investment. 13 years agoI don't have granite, but do have 2 1/4 edges on all my perimeter counters and 3 1/4 or 3 1/2 on the island. I love them, as I prefer the hefty, beefy appearance, too.
