Should I put shade cloth over new transplants?
Comments (4)Since you bought the Maples and they were sent in a box to you they probably will be sensitive no matter what. They were wrapped up for a few days in the dark. You could try to shade them, if possible, but obviously you can do only so much. In Ohio we have had 90% clouds the last month, so the sky has been doing a very good job of shading on it's own. Sounds like ideal morning sun for your Autumn Moon. I have an 'Aureum' and some leaves always start to burn up in August/Sept. but it has gotten better after the first two years. Still kinda ratty looking at the end of the year and winter as some leaves tend to stay on the tree dried up. The Orangeola Japanese Maple may also always get kinda burned by autumn, but on the other hand will grow more. So if you want the tree more for spring color than fall, being more in the sun may be better....See Moreplease help, what should I put over this table?
Comments (21)Yes I was saying to consider 2 fixtures. I would want some nice bright light for working. I might consider seeded glass fixtures also. If you always will have the table there and with all the leaves in place, then you can bring down to a lower height than if you need to be able to walk under the fixtures. Something like this below. Although I would probably look for one that offers higher wattage with more than 1 bulb. Here is a link that might be useful: pottery barn fixture...See MoreShould I put cabinets over my fridge?
Comments (6)So as I understand, your new refrigerator isn't panel ready for the front door sections but you want to create a surround for it? I think it is perfectly fine. You should be planning some electrical lighting at various layers of your new design to adequately light your space. Most fridge surrounds do feature an overhead cabinet or open shelf space. However, adding a cabinet up there could significantly impact your budget, so that's a question only you can answer....See Morewhat should I put over this mantle?
Comments (25)Painting that wall a dark colour will reduce the contrast between the fireplace and the wall, and help it look more balanced in the room. I suggest a very dark version of the green on the other walls. It would be helpful if you took some more close up pictures of the mantle. Is it wood or the same tile? Krylon high-heat enamel comes in a copper colour. Just spray paint your fireplace tools and screen for a quick inexpensive fix. Or, say goodbye to that black tile, and tile over it. You won't have potential water issues that people warn about when doing this in a bathroom or kitchen. Someone in another thread used stick-on tile to go over a row of decorative tiles above their bathroom vanity. Lots of how-to on the internet. If you're not a do-it-yourselfer, it's a small job for a tile pro or handyman because there's no demolition or drywall work. https://www.bobvila.com/articles/can-you-tile-over-tile/ If the sides of the tiles show, just paint them your new tile colour. I painted the tile edges in my bathroom and it's lasted 20 years. Or, paint the tiles. They get no wear and no moisture. Lots of how-tos on the internet. https://simply2moms.com/how-to-paint-a-marble-fireplace-with-chalk-paint/ The row of tiles above the mantle should be painted the same colour as the wall. You can buy or make a slip cover mantle (or mantle cap or mantle cover) that goes right over the existing one. No demo required. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Fireplace-Mantel-Cap/N-5yc1vZ1z10hgv This might be too country a look for you but a burlap mantle scarf would break up the sea of black. I wouldn't leave long fringes because of your cats. https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/280771357990481981/...See Moreblfenton
