Granite decision - 30 min decision...

We went granite looking this afternoon and found something we both liked within 30 minutes....which seems kinda unrealistic.

Both DH and I usually take weeks to decide on anything, we go back to the store 10 times, change our mind a hundred times and second guess ourselves a thousand times : - )

We went to the granite yard and went through all the slabs and decided within 30 minutes.

Since we decided so fast, I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the granite choice against our cabinets....please give your honest feedback.

Our kitchen cabs are Brookhaven, Cherry wood Autumn with black glaze finish. Island is maple wood, Lace with expresso glaze. We selected Kashmir Gold as granite.

That's how it is. You find what you love quickly or it may seem like it takes forever. Kashmir gold is a very pretty granite. I think it's going to look great with your cabinet choices.

can't access your pic. do you plan on the same stone for both the island and perimeter? I actually like that look but didn't know what you planned. Also, not sure what Lace with espresso glaze looks like.

Oh gosh. Yes, I am sick of choosing stuff :-) And I haven't seen a granite I just "love". Maybe I'm just not meant to find the granite love of my life (heck, I'm lucky to have the human one!). Now, I have seen some granites I'd love to have on the island, but when it comes to an all-over choice, I don't want to use them everywhere (too busy and light). I've toyed with a dark perimeter--but don't want Absolute Black--and an accent island. I've pretty much given up that idea. Hubby wants input on the granite choice but has entered his busiest time of the year at work and won't be able to go look at granites again. I need to choose next week since the cabs are going in on Monday and we're trying to meet the June 30 deadline for the tax credit. Thanks for the suggestions and the pics! What I've not done is seen these granites side-by-side, but will do so on Monday. I have seen a kitchen done in Emerald Pearl, which is where I first "found" it. The cabs are the same as mine and their wall color looks to be Blonde, also. So, to me, that was a safe choice since I've seen it done and liked it. Maybe it wasn't love at first sight, but I think we could have a long and comfortable relationship together. Thanks!

Don't discount soapstone or marble countertops simply based on the question of durability. The steps and baths of an ancient roman amphitheater (Arena di Verona) have been in place roughly 2000 years and considering that timeframe and hard use, look pretty good. Similarly, soapstone counters and sinks far outlast their originally users. My grandmother's cottage had both and was built in the early 1900's. My mother's generation, mine, my children and now my grandchildren have tried in vain to destroy that place through innumerable cookouts, sleepovers, card parties and wedding parties. All to no avail. Marble and soapstone certainly have their qualities that make them not a first choice for everyone, but durability is not a factor. Yes, soapstone will chip when whacked by an cast iron pan - but so does granite and wood will dent under the same duress. Both will 'wear' under use but for many of us, that is much of their desirability. If you like that look, nothing else will do. Six kids will not destroy soapstone - my six haven't :). Good luck, Doc

The shower will be smaller to eliminate the pinch point. The window which is very low to the ground will be replaced with a new window that will be above the counter. I have spend to many nights stumbling half awake to the bathroom and shocked I have never fell out! Good suggestion on the grommet hole I would not have thought of that. The plumbing fixtures and cabinets have arrived. I am using the Kohler Margaux brushed nickel fixtures for the sinks and showers. I am really happy with the tiles that I have picked out and plan to use the 12 x 24 on the shower walls and floor. I have looked at hundreds of lighting fixtures, and have no idea what I really need. I have two separate sink areas, on the left by the toilet will be my husbands sink and the right will be my sink and vanity. Do I need to use the same mirrors and lights? The room is narrow so I thought I would use large mirrors or a framed mirror like this photo. I found a sconce that I really like but not sure it goes with the style faucet that I have ordered or if it will be to small compared to the large mirror. Thinking about this hardware. Would

Not sure why the original link is not working...hopefully this one below does...but to answer your question -
yes we are using this granite for the whole kitchen. Lace is a cream color with a very dark brown glaze.

Can't see the pics either, but I've seen Kashmir Gold and it sounds perfect for your cabinets. The fact that you both liked it (and so quickly!) is a sure sign that it's meant to be. Congrats!!

I think it is a great choice - similiar to what I have! with exception of the lace/espresso cab - beautiful!

Thanks everyone....in my 2nd post (4th one down) I was able to post again...I had originally had 3 pics of the same pic, just from diff angles, but I think this one is the best for the lighting.
If you knew us, you would realize how impossible this sounds that we decided within such a short timeframe....just b/c it takes us so long to decide on EVERYTHING else!

Your choice of cabinet finishes is very similar to mine. My perimeter cabinets are cherry with a black glaze and my huge island is a creamy white with a van dyke brown glaze. I too went with a golden granite. I chose Yellow River. It was installed last week and it is unbelievable with my two cabinet finishes. I love your choice of a golden granite, but I am glad I went with a golden granite that has some cream in it too. It is amazining on the island. I have been meaning to get my granite pics up. If you watch this post I will post one here later.
Ultimately, go with your heart.
The first time my hubby and I went granite shopping we picked a granie slab out right away. When I went back to look at it again I didn't like it. I had them move slabs I really liked to an open area of the showroom for a viewing. This really helped as I could see every area of the slab and all color variations of the slab.

I think it is a fantastic choice, and it will look beautiful. IF it makes you feel better, I am sure there are other decisions still left to agonize over, i.e. backsplash, sink, paint, knobs and pulls, etc. ;-) Congratulations on your choice!

Thanks everyone. I think the backsplash selection will be the most difficult - not looking forward to that part!!!
