Furnishing House - Part 2 (in house pics)

For anyone that was following the threads "Daughter furnishing house", and "Another Craigslist find for NHB", this is a continuation of those threads. If you missed the threads, see links below.

My daughter's boyfriend moved into his house last night. Thought y'all might like to see some photos of our "bargain" furniture in his house.

Two of the blue "junk shop" chairs that my daughter bought (with the group of things for $107,) surrounding the leather top table that I fixed up. We think the chairs were old office chairs, but they have good lines and are real sturdy. DD plans to either clean them or recover.

The $600 table/chairs (also to be recovered), "junk shop" lamps, and $26 oil painting on buffet. The buffet was given to DD's boyfriend by his grandmother and it has beautiful lines! It has no shellac or poly on it. I plan to restore it a bit with Restor-A-Finish. Really, really nice!

The buffet is also a real good match to the table/chairs and they both blend well with the floors. The kitchen cabinets (not shown) have a lighter pecan finish, so I suggested that BF get some multi-color, wood bamboo blinds to tie in all the finishes.

Living room. My daughter will have fun fixing up this room. Needs a woman's touch! See free Craigslist TV stand in the corner...the flat screen TV shown, is not the free TV.

They have a long way to go with decorating, painting, etc.., but it will be fun for them. Thanks for looking!

Love the dining table, chairs, buffet & lamps! They look beautiful together. The painting looks very nice over the buffet...what a find!

Those are some really great finds.

Love the dining room and I want that oil painting. Gorgeous buffet. Free TV...can it get any better than that?

It looks like I failed to post part 1 here. Check it out on the big board or the NE board. The pics don't do it justice. My phone took horrible pics and alot didn't turn out at all. It's a must visit if you can coordinate your schedule with an open house date.

I just finally finished all your posts with your old house photos...including the doorbell! What a great old place! Another kindred spirit here...mine is a 1916 Craftsman Bungalow. Only been here about 8.5 years & doing all the work myself (with the exception of electrical & plumbing). Truly a labor of love. It's so much easier to post pics of ripped up, unfinished rooms in this section. Old house people get it when some of your sash are out of the frames for reglazing & some rooms have chipped plaster (for 2 years until you can actually get around to it). Real restoration is so much more time consuming than a "renovation". Your home is gorgeous! Your furnishings are perfect too! I love the folks who understand the phrase "They just don't build em like they used to", and choose that old house to call home! Totally following you!! :0)

It's here! It's here! But, it's still in a crate and it's sitting on the first floor of the house. And, my kitchen is on the second floor of my New York City limestone townhouse. And, the delivery people -- who were told in advance that the delivery of this 463 pound behemoth of an appliance would be to the second floor of such a home (1 step +6 step staircase from curb to front porch landing; 16 step staircase from the parlor level to the 2nd floor)and who charged me extra for such a delivery, but failed to send enough movers for a second floor delivery! But it's here! Supposedly, they will send enough men to deliver it to the 2nd floor either this weekend coming or next. We'll see. Plus, I anticipate there will be another fight now about their increasing the price of delivery. However, just getting physical possession of the darn thing after all this time and in the midst of a vendor liquidation drama, is a big deal. Now, hopefully, it's just a matter of step. . . by . . . step to some Aga 6-4 cookin' in my newly-remodeled kitchen. (A girl can dream can't she?) :) Thanks all, I will definitely post pics when I get it upstairs to the kitchen and can remove the crating. Woo hoo!

It just amazes me what great pieces they have for such a reasonable price. Good luck and congrats to both of them.

Thanks! I felt good about what we purchased and about the prices.

It gets even better! DD and her BF's mother went shopping yesterday and found several pieces that I have not yet seen. They went to a consignment shop, and an auction house. They bought a half round table for the bedroom, a small chest for the entrance foyer, and a secretary for the living room. Also, found many accessories. However, I don't think the items were all such a steal. Apparently, the secretary was quite pricey! The secretary will sit in between the two front living room windows. The "office chairs" will be recovered and sit on either side of the secretary.

What a great start...the dining room looks very nice with the buffet and lamps and the art!

BTW, your DD is lucky to have you as a mom, I think I am decorator-challenged b/c my mom wasn't into such things (she was an angel though) and so I'm playing catch-up here. At least I have GW to help and inspire. :)

Thank you, they are lucky.

My mother wasn't much of a decorator either. She had help, and our styles are not the same.

DD and I went to Ross today and she practically outfitted the guest room and bath for $51. Using an existing green feather comforter, she bought a beautiful red monkey print throw for the end of the bed. Also, new pillows,a throw pillow to go with an existing red toile bolster, a beautiful goldish blanket throw to put for over the white chair that we got at the junk shop. She also bought a gold shower curtain for the bathroom.

Thanks for sharing pics. Your DD has great taste for one so young. I've love everthing she's picked. That is so sweet that your and the DBF's mother are both helping them out feathering the nest, yet it sounds like they are making their own decisions and choosing attractive items in their budget. It is wonderful to see these items being repurposed in such an attractive manner.

I just have to say my 13-year-old DD thinks I'm a bit obsessed with decorating and has already told me that she is not going to bother at all--cleaning or having nice stuff or making her kids pick up their rooms, but she will let her kids make a mess, play soccer in the house and generally be a "cool mom." Yeah, right. ;)
