Eat in Area Dimensions... what's too small?

It looks like my eat in area or nook area is about 6 x 9. I was wondering if anyone has a similar size area for a table and chairs and if they could recommend table shape/size. I would also love to see pics.

My kitchen to be is about 13 X 19 and is L shaped with a 10 foot island.

The eat in area is smaller than I would like it to be but it's too late to fix that now.

My current kitchen is exactly 13x19 with a table on one end, and basically an L with an island, and I was going to put in a banquette seat there, but now I am doing a full scale reno so that plan is nixed.

You mighht want to consider a banquette seat because not only are they really in style right now (and yet it's something that I would think can't really ever go "out of style" per se), but you can fit many more people in, and you have the option for added storage underneath.

Hm... My kitchen when I lived abroad had a table and chairs. The eat-in area was about 6'x3' and was the center of the kitchen. :)

The questions are: How many people are eating in? What kind of meals are being served? Is company being entertained in the kitchen? Will homework be done there? Will science fair projects be made? Halloween costumes cut and sewn? Is this the place where legal papers are reviewed, bills paid, etc.?

The question is, how much room do you need?

I don't need much room at all for my makeup. Like enduring, I keep all my daily cosmetics in a plastic bin - take it out, use what I need, put it back. However, I also don't need a 24" sink. I'd personally reduce the size of the sink and increase the size of the counter. And a 40" sink - is he bathing in it LOL?

Thanks for your reply SJ! The sofa is flush against the wall at the moment. If I pull it on to the rug a little, there will be a space in between the wall and the sofa. I'm not sure if that would look okay... I was reading about proper rug dimension only after I bought the rug lol, so now i'm not sure if I bought the right size. In the picture, when taking into consideration my wall nook, I measured the 6x9 in the room and it would go right up to the fireplace/tv stand and extend all the way past the borders of the wall nook and halfway under the recliner and about 1/4 under the end table. As far as the sofa, it would extend a little less than half under the sofa. So, from the side walking in from the hallway, you will see the rug almost halfway under the couch. Again, not sure if this is breaking "designer" laws! lol..yes i'm very new at this :) Dimensions wise, i'm not sure if the larger rug would kind of cross the border lines in the room and look strange or if the smaller size is fine as it is.

another idea is to bind a piece of carpet - that way you can choose the size and shape.

What do you do when there are too many squash plants in a small area?

You might want to bite the bullet and choose two plants to keep and cut the rest at the base. That might give the most chance for the two remaining ones to thrive and produce big fruits.

We are currently a family of 3 but will be bigger one day.
I do have a formal DR which has a fairly large table and room for 8-10.

I want to comfortably fit 4-5 people at my kitchen table and have room to walk around the island. I think it is going to be tight...

So, what are the aisle clearances? If you have at least 5' b/w the island & the table, I think you'll be fine.

In my 13x19 kitchen, I had (still have till the reno) a 6 person table - it is too big. The table is 4x6.

Here are pics so you can get an idea:

First let me say, there is about a foot of space between the table and the window wall.

The counters are 24" so that means I have 11 feet for length of the table. 6 of those feet are the table, leaving 2.5 feet on each side, which sounds like it might be enough, but truly is not. When someone is sitting on the one end, you can barely squeeze through to get out the door (and that's if you are a smaller person). The cabinets aren't accessible if anyone sits on the other side.

The area is too small. You need to have a clear 3' + a few inches for the chair at the door, and it's too cramped on the other side. I think all you can do is to put a small square or round 4 seat table there.
